Suun'zi

The Suun'zi are the snake people of Oroii. The name itself means "The Lowfolk" as long ago they were created to be a servant race for the Naazey.   Having only recently gained some sense of independence from the Naazey, partly thanks to Ilensil's welcoming attitude towards Suun'zie refugees. For the past two centuries, despite the active efforts from Naazey to prevent it, a thriving liberation movement has started to shake the Naazey society.   The free Suun'zi are now searching for their place in the world. Often drifting from town to town, working where they can, even if their constant animalistic urges makes this sometimes difficult.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

The Suun'zi are a curious race of half-human, half-snake hybrids. Originally made to be slaves for the Naazey. Thanks to their animal ancestry, they are naturally strong, cunning and dexterous.  They also have the ability to transform into a more bestial form, which is not known if this was part of the Naazey design or just a fortunate side-effect.   However, the ancient Naazey design was not perfect and their genes have overtime began to deteriorate. For example, their metabolism is incredibly fast, but because of it, they almost constatly feel the biting fingers of hunger and losing control is real threat when food is not available. And their transformations, the more they use it, the more difficult it becomes for them to recover from it. And overtime it becomes impossible. Remaining as half-beasts for the rest of their lives. All this has understandably made other races wary of them.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

In Naazey society, the naming conventions are quite similar to Naazey standards, though they are often blunt and less elegant than their Naazey counterparts.  Outside of Naazey influence, they drop the Naazey family names and prefer to keep their names short and often singular and without a surname. Though there are some exeptions.    Common names:    Feminine: Asii, Saru, Tees, Xaa.   Masculine: Xuru, Veel, Suh, Yuur.

History

Historians trace their origins back to some of the original human settlers of Oroii, where they were captured by Naazey and experimented upon, splicing snake and other creatures into them, turning them into a half-human, half-animals hybrid. Thus making them well suited to be a servant race to their Naazey masters.   During their time as slaves and servants for their lizard masters, they were used on many kinds of tasks. Held in bay and servitude by their constant hunger, making them dependent on Naazey.   In the battlefield, Suun'zi shock troopers are frighteningly effective, especially if they were released after a period of fasting. The effect on the enemy's morale was apparent when they are forced to witness their troops being torn to pieces and eaten in front of their eyes.   Outside combat, they were often used as concubines, retainers and assassins. Even today, the Xeehian Suun'zi assassins especially are prized and feared in an equal measure.   While they are considered a lower class in Nay-Gissar, they still have some opportunities to rise in ranks. And it is not unheard of that a Suun'zi has risen to position of power and wealth, especially in the Nay-Gissarian underword.
