Magic
The Arcane Arts of Ordu
Magic, also know as "Soul Mending", "Mending", "Madai" and "Xhagi" is the esoteric practice of extending ones soul to gain access to many arcane abilities.
It is commonly known that Naazey were the first ones practice it. And in ancient texts and legends it is claimed that Faan'tuun'raas defied the orders of the great Aas'an'raas to give the art magic to Naazey, whom he so loved. The ruined Tower of Nazaraan, located in Nay-Gissar, is believed to be the first of the many Mending Points to be discovered. A place where the Veil of Reality wears thin.
It is a commonly accepted fact that some races are more adept in the art of soul mending. Especially the Naazey Revered Matriarchs are known to be the undisputed masters of the craft and some of the most famous Dalis mending master are trained by them.
However, being naturally adept in it is exceedingly rare. And most magic users have to find other ways to perform the art.
The act itself usually involves the magic user extending her soul in the wanted form, this form then punctures the veil between this world and the mirror world beyond the veil. However, the hole in the veil closes in mere seconds and magic user must be ready to capture and then mold the rupturing energies to it's desired form.
These forms are called "Xaagis", "Madesis", "Soul-Aspects" or more commonly "Spells".
The act of soul streching is an arduous process to learn and demands a lot of willpower from it's practitioner. As losing focus while having a souls extended can lead to it shattering. This can lead to the magic user's mind to be broken. This may lead to many ill conditions. Like suffering from a multiple personality disorder, psychosis, or worse, ending in a catatonic state and fading away, with no chance of recovery.
The use of "Mending Anchors" are expected for most magic users. An "anchor" is a object that is imbued with a tiny shard of the magic users own soul (often a ring or other jewerly) to be used as an safety measure. So that while the magic user extends his soul away from his body, a piece of "self" would remain. And so that there would be a fixed point for the soul to return to.
There are many ways one can ease their way to beyond the veil. One is to form a connection to something that is already there, or even having something from there to lend their power for the user. These can be spirit creatures, or even some of the powerful multi-dimensional entities that live there.
Other is by simply using more souls. Be it a group ritual, or even a sacrifice. Essentially this gives more power to keep the rift open for a longer time and to gather more energy, to then be molded into more powerful forms.
This technique is practiced ruthlessly by the Riekian Stargazer in their blood rituals.
