Papyrus Skript
Papyrus Skript is a type of paper made of papyrus. What make's it different from the standard papyrus paper found around the Ancestor Isles is the hard to achieve process that the Dwarves use to produce it.
Properties
Origin & Source
Papyrus Skript comes from, primarily, the same plant as regular papyrus paper, which is called the Papyrus Reed.
Life & Expiration
Papyrus Skript has an extremely long lifespan, unlike normal Papyrus Paper.
History & Usage
Discovery
In ancient times, the Dwarves, once known as the Dark Ones before gaining their freedom, moved to and scattered across the south western desert of the Ancestor Isles. A few decades after their arrival, yet still not unified as one government, a Dwarven scholar discovered how to use this seemingly useless plant as something to write on. This became known as Papyrus Paper. Following a few decades since this discovery, a Dwarven alchemist experimented on Papyrus Reed and Papyrus Paper to see if they could make it even tougher, and last even longer. To their surprise, it actually worked.
Everyday use
Papyrus Skript is not used by many within the Ancestor Isles. The production of it is a closely guarded secret and is tough to make. Due to these two very reasons, the cost of it is higher than most can afford and it is usually only found in homes of the wealthy, some governmental buildings, and some scholars. It is used for the same purpose as normal Papyrus Paper, but is considered more elegant.
Refinement
- Papyrus is soaked in water for 5 or 6 days.
- After the soaking, it is sent through a simple metal press, a device used to flatten or shape objects, to form a compact brick-like object.
- Then it is placed within a small stone bowl of an ale, tea, and sugarcane water concoction for 3 days.
- After that, while still in the bowl with the concoction, it is placed within a furnace, at lower temperatures than used for metal processing.
- Once it has been "cooked" in the concoction, it is placed under the press again to flatten it.
- However, if the papyrus is not up to the standard of the Skript Maker, they may send it through this process more than once to ensure it's to the quality required.
- After it is flattened, it is left in a dry, warm room to dry off and settle. The end result is the Papyrus Skript.

Interesting to have a writing material that is only used by the richest. Is it actually better than paper from wood as well?
In my world, while they're on par with the real world medieval era in a lot of things, they don't utilize normal paper. I may introduce linen rag based paper like in the medieval era at some point. But due to the expensive production of Papyrus Skript, over normal papyrus (which does exist in my world), it's only more affordable for the rich, seen as luxury more than anything.
