Cities, Towns & Villages

The capital city of the Shadaerion Dominion is located in the north-east of Fariondor. Additionally, there are various encampments and villages around the border and elsewhere in the world.

History

A forsaken part of the Elven Covenant, the Shadaerion Dominion originally was one of the major parties within the alliance. However, after the tragic aberration that created the Vanghouls, the Stryth elves were banished from the Covenant & their own homeland.
Forced to vanish, they settled down off the north-east coast of Fariondor, not too far from the border of Serony. The low & humid temperature of the environment compelled the elves to adapt and evolve to survive in the unforgiving climate.

In spite of old traditions, the Stryth elves established a new leadership structure that was similar to the human imperial hierarchy. No longer would the Elders, nor the spiritual Gods dictate the future of the Shadaerion Dominion.
For the longest time, Nylah Elydarh, held the title of Ascendant of the Night, which is the same role as an Emperor/Empress. After she died in 1672, Alyndra Elydarh, took over her mother's position as the rightful ruler of the Shadaerion Dominion.
The young and inexperienced daughter is guided by the Council of the Circle, who now holds most of the leadership of the Dominion.

  The Powers of the Dominion
In the year 709, a discovery was made that would lead to the foundation of the Dominion’s power. Concealed within the heart of the island of Ash’kar, off the coast of Fariondor, an underground sanctuary had been built by an ancient civilization. It predated the elves first arrival to this land, and the language carved on the walls wasn’t recognized by any entity known to the elves. Sitting on a pedestal inside the frozen chamber with a statue of Synaries the Oblivious hanging above it, there was a crystal formation with a teal glowing orb within. It was a magical artifact of the old world, one that had unknown powers. The Stryth elves were adamant about brining this legendary artifact back to the Covenant, which could be a symbol of their might. However, Elder Ni’rosh Aeran’thil of the Silver Coven and head of the Elven Covenant was against this decision. The source of this relic was not known to anyone, and bringing it to the Covenant could result in a disastrous outcome. The decision was final, no Akachena or Stryth would be allowed to go near that sanctuary ever again. Nevertheless, in the coming years, the pull to this artifact grew stronger for the Stryth elves. Seeking to examine this object, Lord Elydarh took with him a unit of Night Rangers. Little did they know that the mere presence of this relic would cause a ripple effect like no other.
  The Dissolution
A few years after the discovery of the mysterious Ash’kar relic, Lord Elydarh together with a female Akachena gave birth to a hybrid. This, however, was against the treaty of the Covenant, in which Akachena and Stryth were forbidden to mate. Despite the law, Elder Ni’rosh approved for this child to be born, but on the other hand it would need to be carefully examined through its growth. An apothecary was assigned to inspect the boy and carefully follow the transformation. Years later, it was discovered that Elydarh had ignored the law set forth by Ni’rosh and actively visited the Ash’kar relic. It had started to change him in unnatural ways. The color of his eyes had started to become faintly luminescent. This was also represented in the eyes of the hybrid. The continued behavior of the Stryth elves could no longer be overlooked, and Elder Ni’rosh issued a banishment that would divide the elven species in two. The Akachena would remain with the Covenant, but the Stryth elves had to leave their homeland behind. Additionally, the hybrid was to be executed as it had started to show unnatural transformations. This break between the races began a war that would last for over half a millennium. Under leadership of Lord Elydarh, the Stryth elves rebuilt their home on the island of Ash’kar with the sanctuary of the relic at the center. This would become the Shadaerion Dominion. As the years passed, the presence of the artifact started to affect all the Stryth elves on the island. Their eyes became faintly luminant and would change color based on different life paths. These effects also enhanced various abilities such as increased underwater breathing and improved vision during the night.
  A Non-aggression Pact
During the late 14th century, a truce was reached between the Akachena and Stryth factions. It was a very unstable treaty that mostly kept the Akachena and Stryth away from each other. The former leader of the Dominion died a long time ago, and the new one, Nylah Elydarh had taken up his mantle as the Ascendant of the Night. The Aeran’thil Highborn family and the Elydarh Ascendant family was the keepers of the treaty. A breach on either side would be taken very seriously, even up to the point where an elf associated with the other side would be executed by their own. This was, as they saw it, the best way to keep their own in line and to not risk any contact outside of ceremonial gatherings.
  The One True Elydarh
In the late 16th century, Nylah Elydarh departed this world, which gave her daughter complete reign over the Shadaerion Dominion. The young and inexperienced girl had a very different view from her mother. The entire structure had changed drastically since the departure from the Covenant. Because of the Ash’kar relic, the Stryth had changed into sub-races that they themselves labeled as Pure (Celestial Born), Touched, and Lost. An Ascendant of the Night would always be classified as a Celestial Born, but Alyndra saw the Touched as the ones with power. They were the ones who pursued the magic, even in its darkest form. The Shadaerion Dominion was slowly changing to meet Alyndra Elydarh’s view. Her rule was never questioned despite her different take on what was deemed right. This would shape the very future of the Dominion.
