The Big Schmoosh

This is a story of something horrible.   Our world is not a perfect sphere. Not anymore at least.   On that perfect circle of the beginning, that perfect orb, there was nothing. The granite that has since launched into the sky to make mountains and sucked into the soil to make canyons was flat and pure. Pure and slightly warm. As you know all purity comes to an end. This was the beginning of that end.   Before the tinky dinosaurs, the ice age or the world flood happened, there was The Very Powerful, Very Dreadful, Very Assumedly Gigantic Schmoosh, more commonly known as The Big Schmoosh.   A large asteroid, perhaps even a small planet like Pluto, impacted our world. It should have been completely destroyed but in reality all that happened was a slight schmoosh. Well, really just a dreadful, powerful and assumedly gigantic one.   Why did the world survive this impact and survive long enough to sprout all sorts of life?   The Lux is why.   The center, the heart, of our world is a blazing orb of Light some say equals the outer sun in heat. Like the outer sun it sheds light and warmth. However it also fills the Aerth with Light, captital L. Magic. After the Big Schmoosh happened, it was the Lux and perhaps its Light that held the planet together. However, the effort it expended did crack its purity.   Now bits of the Lux break off when the Outer Shell cools in the night. These bits are the magical Gobbet Stars of the Aerthan night sky.   Only after this impact was magic able to directly affect the world. As mentioned before, it was horrible.

Manifestation

What should have happened : Utter, shattering destruction of the world   What did happen :   1. A mere schmoosh.   2. The projectile hit our North Pole and pressed it toward the South. The squashing of the globe increased the space between Aerth's equator and the warmth of the Lux. The North Pole schmooshed toward the South. Thus the Frozen Waist (or Waste depending on who you talk to) was made on the inside and the hot equator on the outside.   3. Besides the destruction of the atmosphere there was a great rattling and cracking of the Lux's pure globe, much like the cracking done to the shell of the earth.   4. Gobbets broke free and infused Light into the inner world of the Aerth. Life began.
