Reaper Condition in The 5 Shudake | World Anvil

Reaper

Reapers are the most mysterious of the Spirit. They are the guardians of life and death, bound to keep the balance between the two planes. Because of this, Reapers are often seen as an omen of death. This is not entirely true, but helping souls into the afterlife is part of their job, but they are also in charge of making sure massacres are kept to a minimum and helping young souls flourish and fulfill what is required of them.

In addition to this, Reapers are the guardians of the other spirits, their leaders. They have the power to choose a crossing soul and hold them to this plane in the form of anotherĀ Spirit with a connection to the element of their death. They use the others as their agents of balance, guiding them with an intangible voice in their minds which is often refused to as "the wind" or "voice of the stars". In fact, those that don't know the way of reapers often mistake their voice and commands as some heavenly influence. They are often mistaken as the stars or as the wind itself, or as a deity calling out to them. None of these are true, but Reapers hardly ever counteract these assumptions.

Unlike the other Spirits, Reapers hold on to their original form, but they can't interact with the material world or even be seen by it. Because of this, knowledge of their existence is limited.

Magic

Reapers are incredibly powerful. Ever since the Avians were hunted down, Reapers were forced into the sole balance restoring force. This has pushed their power to incredible places. In addition to intangibility and flight, they can influence people's decisions and actions. The most impressive feat, however, is their ability to travel backward in time. Traveling forward is nothing truly notable, but Reapers are one of the few passes into the past. This is incredibly hard and takes much energy. Mainly, Reapers do not utilize this ability unless necessary, and they only send their champions if they can help it.

Over the years, many people have attempted to bind Reapers to do their bidding. This is also an incredibly hard thing to do, and incredibly immoral. It would take extremely powerful spells to hold the reaper in place long enough to perform a modified Binding spell, one that would tie the Reaper to a physical item such as a lamp or sword or ring. Once this is done, it is possible to force the Reaper to do your bidding for a period of time. Caution is advised, however, for if the reaper is released their wrath will turn on their captor. There is no viable description of what that entails, the only known detail being absolute death.

Champions

Reapers only ever have relationships with their champions, their chosen pawns in the larger game. They choose another mortal creature, usually another Spirit of some sort but occasionally other creatures, to interact with a guide, whispering instructions and information into their minds. For Reapers, it is extremely hard to speak with anything not slightly severed from the living plane and communication with such things tires them out considerably.
