Mellion Vehicle in The 5 Shudake | World Anvil

Mellion

A Mellion is a full-rigged sailing ship built for long-distance travel and small naval skirmishes. It was later adapted to be better suited for war. The ship originally got its name from the medallion which was commonly used in krekonian econamy at the time of it's invention. Sailors would declare the ship 'worth a medallion' which was a high compliment to the shipwrites and merchants.
They were originally designed in Krekkon in the 1300's but the design slowly spread out into the entire western coast. the ship is large, but sleek. A high, square forecastle rose behind the bow, the three or four masts carried both square and fore-and-aft sails, and one or two tiers of guns were carried broadside. below deck, there were 4 levels for storage and the crew.

Krekkonian design

With Krekkonians the way they are, the Mellion was specifically designed to be easy to manage. to sail, the ship needs only a small crew to sail, as well as very little maintanence outside of drastic circumstances.

History

beginnings

The ship was first built for long distance sales, developed out of Krekkon to better ship their crystals and chefan to the wider market.

Rise in popularity

After the Mellion spread along the coast, the design became common in every dock, peir, and coastal town. the Mellion was a commoners ship, usefull for all sorts of different reasons without speciality, making them very popular with merchants traveling south.

A Pirates Ship

By the 1500's, enough pirates had lain claim to merchants ships and refitted them out as their own, the Mellion gained the resputation of being a pirates vessle, leaving potential buyers fearful of perchasing one. many more harrased towns would deny port to any mellions for fear they would be hidding a pirate crew just below deck, ready to rage and pillage.
Once the Lumia came into play, the reputaion was all but solidified.
