Fortree

Written by NEVERM0RE

Fortree
Fortree, built beneath the winding intersections of two enormous world trees. The massive branched structures long ago fallen to lean against one another, by the course of nature or by another force; this knowledge has been lost to time.

Government
The township has an elected official however they spend most of their time living in -CITYNAME-. The people are supposed to be able to speak to them about issues regarding the township however due to their absence they have more and more turned to the Traders Guild for support. The city of -NAME- provides some of its guard to help defend the town and keep order.
Defences
The world trees provide a natural defence against both the storms that can plague the region during summer and any would be attackers. Wooden walls have been built up in large curving arcs that stretch from one tree too the other, making the most of the natural tree roots where possible.
Industry
Fortree started life simply as a rest stop for travellers heading north/south to -PLACE CITY HERE-. The natural shelter allowed a respite from the weather and allowed travellers to trade and share stories. Eventually one such caravan decided not to continue on and instead decided to settle and set up a small trading post. This proved very profitable and soon a few other travelling groups had done the same, eventually leading to the permanent settlement you see today. Over time the open areas too the north and south of the trees have been developed into for residential and farm use.
Infrastructure
  • Mostly dirt roads other than the main cobblestone street that runs directly through the middle of the world trees
  • Primarily Residential, most of the people who have settled here make their livelihood from travellers passing through
  • Three Inns: The Rushloc, Lady Nyx and The Trunkhearth
  • Shops: General Store, Leatherworker, Apothecary, Blacksmith, Stables & Carts, & Tailor. The basics for any travellers needs.
  • Assets
  • Rooms for rent
  • Horses and wagons/carts
  • Warmer clothes for those heading north
  • Plenty of dried meats and fruits
  • Some fish and fresh fruit and veg
  • Limited amount of tools
  • Guilds & Factions
The traders guild have set up an outpost here for their members and to manage goods flowing through the town.
    Architecture
The trees create a large natural shelter, large enough even for a township to exist between them. They provide shelter from the elements and safety to those residing beneath their mighty trunks.   Because of the shelter provided by the enormous trunks, the buildings themselves have little need to be as strong as those exposed to the elements. That being said they spend a lot of time out of direct sunlight and so too keep warm they tend to double up on some materials.   Some shops use stone walls although this is mostly for aesthetics, most are made of a few different varieties of dark and light wood. Most of the residential homes and buildings have thatched roofs as they are cheap and warm and due to the natural shelter do not have to deal with strong winds and rain as often.
    Geography
Fortree is in the center of the -NAME- forest. No one really knows why the two world trees grew as big as they did, nor how old they are. There are many folk tales and stories that surround their birth however.   The -NAME- river runs to the -EASTorWEST- of Fortree and provides good clean water and some fishing
    Resources

  • Afterword: These creations are places that have not truly found their place in a world, that being said they are a platform ripe for adaptation and further exploration. These articles will change many times as we take them and individually make them our own, but their true foundation will always live on in the preceding words, art and song.

  • " ... they say the world trees are as old as the dirt and rocks and oceans. Their seeds fell from the heavens long ago, the hearts of gods that perished in the wars above. But the foretrees ? Well I think they're different... not the usual single solitary soul standing proud but two beings that couldn't bare to be apart. " - A Tyvir Storyteller of particular merit, 932YR
