A secluded fishing village nestled between the looming sides of a deep ravine.
Shademir has no real governmental body, no lawmaker nor enforcer. The village relies upon it's 10 elders to make choices that dictate the day to day goings on of the settlement. However there is often little to no need to call the elders together as the village lives mostly in harmony in it's secluded location far from civilisation.
Shademir has no real defences, it's solitary location provides the settlement enough privacy from the world above. However many of the inhabitants are well practiced in the way of the spear, both for fighting as well as fishing.
Most of what the village has for trade is excess of what it uses. The village catches, forages, mines and produces most of the items and food that it needs to survive. However it does not turn down travellers or traders and the village boasts some of the best freshwater fish in the region.
The village has no roads to speak of, instead there are two paths down to the ravine, one on either side of the looming walls.
There are rope bridges that stretch between the walls forming an almost spider web like pattern
The dwellings mostly reside at the very bottom of the ravine, most on large wooden pillars
Some dwellings are built into the stone wall faces themselves although only the most wealthy can afford to do so
Four Inns: The Float, Ravina, Lightbringers Touch, The Mist and Maiden
Limited shops, the town mostly relies on trade between its residents. However there is a general store.
Two basic mines for crystals and ores
Rooms for rent
Boats/rafts to travel downriver
Some clothes
Plentiful fish
Some minerals and ores
Shademir started life as a tiny fishing settlement.
When a few settlers discovered a path down to the bottom of the large ravine they realised how rich the area was for both it's fishing and mining opportunities; and so they started work bringing materials down in order to make the spot livable. However the ravine was deep, so much so that for more than half the day the settlement would be shrouded in very dim light. This would cause the settlers to have to burn large amounts of firewood and oils in order to have enough light to work and live. Bringing these materials down everyday from the lands above proved taxing and soon many were looking for other viable solutions. It took the work of one prospector to fix this issue and bring Shademir its natural prosperity.
Being so naturally far beneath the earth had its advantages, a mine made from the bottom of the deep ravine was already far enough beneath the earth that you needn't dig far before finding valuable ores and minerals. This was the idea that one such prospector had, and while his fellows fished the rich river he worked hard digging into the stone walls of the ravine. What he found was the -GEM/MINERAL- it was in abundance and it's ability to absorb sunlight and then slowly release it would put Shademir on the map.
The village is mostly made of structures that can weather the change in the rivers height and flow. They sit atop large wooden struts either on the ravine walls or on the river itself. There are even a few suspended from outcroppings in the cliff-like walls.
Getting around the village is easy enough, many bridges, boats and ferries allow transport between the townships various areas.
There are also a number of rope and wood bridges that now span the space above the village, connecting the side passes.
The settlement sits in almost perpetual darkness, lit by daylight for only 4-6 hours it relies on it's rechargeable sunstones to provide the village with enough light. While they don't have the same brightness as the Lightbringer itself, a large enough bundle of the charged gems will easily outshine a torch or even a campfire. This gives the town a unique feel and if you were to stand atop the ravine and look down at the village you would see a small ocean of glittering gemstone stars reflecting off the rivers water and lighting the way for its people.
Plentiful supply of fish and other freshwater food
A limited supply of sunstones from the mines
Some other ores and minerals
Afterword: These creations are places that have not truly found their place in a world, that being said they are a platform ripe for adaptation and further exploration. These articles will change many times as we take them and individually make them our own, but their true foundation will always live on in the preceding words, art and song.
This is absolutely fantastic!
