Nostole, capital city of the Embercloak Dwarves.

Prompt 24: A settlement that was lost or discovered.   Nostole, capital city of the Embercloak Dwarves.    The fifth Dwarven Kingdom of the Golden Council, The Embercloak Dwarves In 850 IA the Undying Khan launched an attack on the Embercloak Dwarves that destroyed their kingdom and left their lands in ruins. The kingdom was thought lost forever.   The Embercloak Dwarves were the largest and most prosperous kingdom of the five dwarven kingdoms in the golden council, and they were notoriously isolationist and secretive by their nature. Their kingdom was a sprawling network of deep mins caves and underground fortresses that spanned the length and breadth of the icy mountain ranges that separated Baquenta and Caremia in the north of Thar’kor. It was an area that had remained unpenetrable to the Unydying Khan in his previous rules and a stain on his reputation for conquest.   The Undying Khan used demonic abominations to breach the defences of the Embercloaks, tunnelling deep below their kingdoms and emerging with the full force of his host in the very heart of the kingdom. It was a slaughter, whilst the dwarves put up a fight they were ill equipped for an attack so deep in the heart of their defences, trusting, foolishly, on the strength of their outer defences to keep them safe. The battle was short, but the killing continued for months as the Undying Khan sought out all pockets of survivors and set about systematically destroying every part of the kingdom with hatred and rage that defied logic. He sought to wipe the enemy that withstood him for so long from the face of the earth. And so the Embercloak dwarves disappeared from history.   Unbeknownst to all in Thar’kor, the Embercloak dwarves had been exploring and expanding their domain in uninhabited regions of southern Thar’kor. The y established a large kingdom in the wild mountains on the eastern border of Gaversia, They maintain an isolationist culture and have expanded their kingdom to rival the original kingdom in the north over the past 1100 years. Completely self-sufficient and autonomous, the society, focused on the capital city of Nostole, is very wealthy, has a population of over 250,000 dwarves and embraces the use of magic in all aspects of their lives. Their culture is relatively unchanged since the Imperial age, being isolated from the rule of the undying Khan and the demonised view of magic that the rest of Thar’kor is gripped by.
