Dormthardi’ri

Prompt 5: Somewhere in your world setting describe a settlement beside or in a great expanse. The Dark lord’s City and palace  - Dormthardi’ri   The dark lord's throne is the City of Dormthardi’ri. Once the great capital of the Northern Khan Empire was established over 1500 years ago at the height of the Imperial age by the first Great Khan. The city has remained occupied since but has fallen well below its glory days and now many areas of the city are left as abandoned ruins. Few living creatures now reside in the city, those that do are powerful necromancers or dark wizards that can protect themselves from the various undead and demonic inhabitants of this city, or their servants and slaves to whom they protect. The undead roams openly and freely as both intelligent underlings in the dark lord's army, such as liches, vampires and wights, or as their thralls, such as skeletons, zombies, and ghouls. The population of the city would number only in the 1000's at most, due to most living people fearing to set foot in this evil and unnatural domain.    The once open and sprawling city is now a small gathering of wizards' towers, ziggurats, servants' quarters and a graveyard surrounding the enormous tower of the Dark lord. The Dark lord’s tower is the tallest structure in all of Thar’kor, stretching 200 ft into the air. The nine-sided tower is made of an unnaturally smooth dark stone, and it bristles with spikey protrusions, sharp, angular and slender buttresses and is crowned with twisted pinnacles giving the impression of a dark, torturous blade thrusting into the sky itself.   Immediately before the tower, and serving as both the entrance to the Dark lord's lair and the sacrificial altar for the Dark Lord’s rituals, is a blood-stained altar, standing upon the top of a stepped pyramid dedicated to Demogorgon. This dark and grim pyramid houses hooks and pike along the fave of each stepped level to which the corpses of prisoners are impaled and hung as grim offerings after their ritual sacrifice on the altar. The air hangs heavy with the smell of death and putrefaction, and all who gaze on this horrifying visage know if they betray or fail the Dark lord they will find themselves hanging from a recently emptied spike on the pyramid. The Dark lord keeps no prisoners in this land.
