Dimension ripples
Thar’kor was long ago protected by powerful magics to stave off Demogorgon and the corruption he spread across the land. In doing so the fabric of the material plane was interwoven with the fabrics of many of the inner and outer planes. This has created beautiful and dangerous natural phenomena known as Dimension ripples.
Dimension ripples are a blending of the fabric of the planes where two or more planes are intersecting and woven together. The phenomena, under certain conditions, will cause sparks and flashes in reality and then cause the area to flow and ripple like the ripples on a pond when a rock is thrown in. The rippling results in wondrous and beautiful colour shifts on the peaks and troughs of the ripples. They are very beautiful to observe, but dangerous to be i. The ripples connect the material plane to other dimensions temporarily and this connection is not a stable one. Whilst people and creatures have become trapped in other realms, and all manner of monsters trapped in the material plane, it is just as likely that one is caught between dimensions when the ripple stops and is either lost forever in an ethereal nothingness or torn apart by the separation of your body between two planes.
The ripples are contained along an east-west axis of 250 kilometres across the equator along the glacial mountains and in a 250-kilometre radius of the north and south poles of Thar’kor but are isolated to only these areas. The limited range of the phenomena is due to the location of planer binding sites in these areas that connect the continent to divine power sources able to hold back Demogorgon and his armies. The power is starting to wain, so demonic forces can travel to Thar’kor, for limited periods before the radiant power begins to cause them too much pain to stay, however, it is still strong enough to hold back Demogorgon & his corruption which plagued the northern hemisphere for millennia, in the age of the Ancient Kingdoms.
