My WorldEmber Pledge 2022

Week 1

  1. Which world setting is most important to me right now, and why?   Thaiterra (where this article is found). I'm writing a book set here for NaNoWriMo.   2. Which area of that world setting will allow me to achieve my goals?   Working on Tholaren Dome and the details there will help. Also developing the Weinadi in the immediate area.   3. How will it help me achieve those goals?   This is the space where the book happens, so I'll have lots of details I'll want to put in World Anvil so I don't forget. And since I doubt I will have finished the book at the end of November, it will help me clarify what I want to do with the ending of the book.   Summary statement: I will work on Tholaren Dome and the cultures around it to better figure out how this darned book is going to end.

Week 2

  1. Create a scope for your mini-meta! What is the area or topic your project will cover?   Tholaren Dome is the main area I want to look at, to flesh out some of the details included in the novel I'm writing, to better picture what I'm doing.   Also the Weinadi in the immediate area need more specific details than just the vague general social constructs that I've got. I've got the stereotypes and generalities, it's time to find out how this individual group works.   2. Which themes do you want to include? How will you express them?   The theme is personality. No broad strokes elements here, only the tiny minutiae that gives life to a world. I also want these people (for both groups) to be pushed to the edge. It should get a bit grittier than I normally write because these details are coming in right around a major catastrophe and things should feel a little more dire.   3. Moodboard?   I have a Pinterest board found here. I'll create a sub-board shortly specifically for the area I intend to explore.

Week 3

  1. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Ever so slowly, I expand my organizational categories as the need arises. I went through, made sure everything was in a category, and for those categories that got a bit full, I created new ones to spread things out a bit.   2. No, I still have not tagged my articles. I know. I have no good ideas for organizing in this manner just yet. I will work on it. Later.   3. Homework is helpful! Especially with this week, reorganizing is something people should do periodically anyway, and it's nice to have a specific reason to take a look.

Week 4

  1. I am satisfied with my current formatting. I'm using one of the prebuilt ones, and if there were menus I might tweak it a little, but I'm not going to mess around with CSS because I don't know what I'm doing and what I have is fine.   2. As usual, I use Pinterest for my visual references. For obvious reasons, I'm not going to share the photos here. I don't plan on using them in articles, just as idea generators. Someday, eventually, I will put photos in my articles, but right now that's intimidating and I'll stick with the text, especially for WorldEmber where every word counts.

I'm done! Made it to 10k, wrote an article for each category, and developed quite a few details for my world. I also managed to craft a few details for an rpg campaign session, and expand a few old stubs. Now I'm working on a language I started ages ago. It's been a pretty great WorldEmber!

If you're seeing this, I may have used your article for my 2023 Reading Challenge.
