Achieving Primacy

Congratulations! You've survived to adulthood. Now comes the real work.
— Common phrase told to young people at their primacy ceremony
In Serunen, adulthood is not always a guarantee. There are a number of threats to children that, especially in the early days, made this ceremony a very special event. Even now that childhood survival rates are climbing, reaching the age of 16 and achieving primacy is something that the whole community celebrates.

History

Originally, the ceremony was more personal, revolving around the person who reached 16 and their immediate family. As the ceremony grew in importance, it became more communal in nature, which in turn made it easier to eventually combine all the ceremonies into one annual affair, featuring a massive feast and lots of elements.

Execution

In the modern era, the ceremony is held once every human year. All the young people who have reached the age of 16 are the celebrants, and prepare to join their chosen career. The event starts with a kind of fair, with each celebrant performing some kind of showcase to demonstrate for their future. If their job isn't interesting or demonstrative, they can prepare some kind of hobby, and some have been known to work together for a larger group display.   After the fair (the length of which is determined by how many young people are participating), there is a ceremony in which various authorities do stuff, and the Senarion gives each person their actium.   After this comes a massive feast, that traditionally continues into an unofficial blowout party by the youths.

Components and tools

Part of the ceremony is that each new adult receives their actium from the Senarion. These are not quite like the Actia of Tholaren Dome, in that they are not connected to the Fergana but rather a much more limited computer that the exiles brought with them. It is a symbol of their identity, and of their role in life, and will be modified to suit each individual.

Participants

While others high ranking in the government may perform different aspects of the ceremony, the Senarion is the only one whose role is set, as the one who gives out the actia, along with a small benediction over each new citizen.
