Varimathras

Texil-dra is a land with a rich and ancient history that extends for millenia. What is today known as the continent of palamoa was once known as the nation of Varimathras, a primarily elven country said to have possessed powerful magic, the secrets of which has largely been lost to the ravages of time. Millenia ago, the elves there used magic to create a bustling civilization that at first glance would seem almost modern - using magic for refrigeration, lighting, medicine and many other modern conveniences. They are also credited with creating a number of the mysteries found within the world today through their magical experiments, such as the mysterious gohran race.
However, as is often the case with powerful users of magic, eventually hubris swelled and led to the downfall of Varimathras when they began to use demonic magic. Hoping to enhance their craft with greater raw arcana, they began summoning demons to use their essences as spell foci. Their leader, a mighty elven mage known as Dhronin, eventually decided to perform an impossible feat: summon a demonic lord and bind him permanently to create a magical power plant of sorts. He ascended the slopes of Mount Draxnigmo and entered the then-dormant caldera to cast his spell, hoping to use the isolated mountain to perform his work where no civilians could be harmed. Unfortunately, the particular demon lord he summoned was Rhizadiel, a demon far beyond his power to control.
It was through Varimathras' lust for magical power that Rhizadiel first entered our world, and his first act of destruction was to obliterate the arrogant elves who summoned him. in doing so, Rhizadiel destroyed all the knowledge gathered by that advanced nation, setting the world back millenia in terms of science and magical understanding. Only the great library is said to have survived, having been hidden somewhere below the ground before Rhizadiel could destroy it. The aftermath of Dhronin's magic was a catastrophe he never could have predicted: the complete destruction of his nation, the loosing of a mighty archfiend into the world, and the transformation of Mount Draxnigmo into a violent active volcano. Some say that his spell did even more to the mountain: that it is now connected directly to the fires of hell itself.
