Gothari Amels

The Gothari Amels are a Non-Elvish Old Amellion ethnic group in the Kingdom of Gothtar, descendant from predominantly the Old Amellion refugees arriving in northern Gothtar from Aethelcar following the Tolimanic Apocalypses in 467. They formed the ruling class of the Amel Kingdom, the predecessor to the Kingdom of Gothtar formed in 590 from the remnants of the Berytusian Province of Goalis after the Zwerg Conquest of Gothtar in the mid 500s. The Amels made alliances with human Emunite leaders throughout Gothtar, and the Amel Kingdom was joined together with the Duchy of Nabo in 689 under the human King Pelon I. Thereafter the Kingdom of Gothtar included the Amels as a component population, but as the Reconquests (689–1002) continued, the human proportion of the population steadily increased. Today the Amels make up a sizable minority in Gothtar, and enjoy privileged status due to the Charter of Pelon I.   Amels speak primarily Gothish, a descendant of the Goalia Dialect of the Imperial Language. Effectively all Amels belong to the Haugrkirk Emuna (the state religion of Gothtar), but practice it under the Old Aethelcar Rite, which uses Old Aethelcarian as a liturgical language. Because their lifespans are about the same as humans, Amels are fully integrated into human society, and frequently intermarry with humans. Under Amel culture, a child is considered Amels if either of their parents are. Like other Amellions, Amels are considered highly attractive on average, and a great many of the romances and poems composed in Gothtar relate romances between humans and Amels.
