Argad Character in Teryn | World Anvil

Argad (Ahr-gahd)

When most people think of 'dwarves', an image comes to mind of a skilled craftsman who is stubborn, unforgiving, and covetous of the world's mineral wealth. Sometimes they’ll even be generous enough to remember their steadfast loyalty, but not always.   These stereotypes come from the foul humours of the ancestor Argad, who could be bitter and short-tempered. But to say that was the extent of it does a disservice to him and his descendants. Among his people, he was celebrated for his great nobility and loyalty.   Argad was the second oldest of all Shāmalta, with only Feru being his elder. Argad suggested that the lot of them be collectively referred to as vegrāhid, making them all equal.   He was admittedly bitter not to be chosen Regdāhid by his siblings, though he couldn’t deny Feru's qualifications and supported his sovereign with dour loyalty. In Argadhal where he ruled, however, he styled himself as if he was Regdāhid. The trend he started of exacting detail and ornamentation on their works led to Argadhal being known for the finest art in all of the First Empire.   Indeed, the famous gilt-murals of 'Auld Iron' were made by Argad himself, mirroring the fine engraving, chasing, and repousse worked upon the surface of Shāragad, the great anvil-relic. Some whisper that they were imbued with great and terrible powers by this, but those rumors were never confirmed or denied by Argad or his siblings.   The clans Argadaz, (Silverglow), (Whitehand), (Silverbeard), (Mastersmith), and (Anvilfury) were known to descend from him during the First Empire. They were also known as excellent politicians and statesmen, rising to positions of influence within the empire.   The metal silver is named for him, carried through by the Teryn argentum as well.

Shāragad: a massive anvil, so large that one didn't need a stand to rest it upon. The name translates roughly to 'ordination.' Covered in rūn and elaborate engravings, it could also rightly be considered artwork. Legends speak of it imparting a measure of Argad's mastery of crafts and art to those who work upon it as well as Lumina's mastery of rūn. Argad created items of stunning beauty and terrible potency that rivaled Lumina's, without her innate skill.

So I see that the tradition of naming metals after ancestors isn’t only limited to Feru! I’m keen to see what weapons this blacksmith dude forged, how he advanced dwarven society and you know, what legacy he left. Will definitely give another comment once this article is fully finished!
