The Black Pox
Not much is clear yet about this disease as the first known cases only occurred within the last year. The Black Pox, as it is being called colloquially, seems to have originated from The New World. The first known victims of the disease were all residents of Port Carden
Transmission & Vectors
The Black Pox is caused by infection with an, as yet, unknown virus. It is usually transmitted from one person to another primarily through prolonged face-to-face contact with an infected person, or through direct contact with infected bodily fluids or contaminated objects such as bedding or clothing. However, there have been cases where the pox was spread by virus carried in the air in enclosed settings
Causes
As it is so new, nothing is really known about the causes of the disease. It looks likely that the origins may be from some type of flora or fauna native to the new world.
Symptoms
The initial symptoms are similar to other diseases: fever, muscle pain, malaise, and headache. Sometimes nausea and vomiting and backache will occur. This stage, usually lasts a few days, before small reddish lesions appear on the body. The lesions begin to swell over the next days and form pustules which leak fluid. The lesions will usually leak blood under the skin, giving them a black appearance and the disease its name.
Prognosis
The disease is too new to be certain, but anecdotal evidence seems to show that the Black Pox is fatal in 30-40% of cases.
