Gnoscanima Stability

The Theoretic Miracle
Ether by nature is an stable phenomena, any alterations it undergoes being completely under it's own volition so to speak, able to change but often correlating with natural processes such as the ether of wood becomes the ether of flames when burned, but all in all operating in a vacuum or within the closed circuit of natural phenomena. On the other hand, by nature, Gnoscanima in all its forms is unstable, the nature of their very reality being subject to change by any external forces. This natural interface has made it a major subject of interest to many academics, researchers and such due to them essentially being a programmable existence.

Though this unstable aspect that grants it their intrigue also makes them terribly unreliable, as even if humanity manages to find the silver bullet to reprogramming an Id's framework, the fact remains that it must remain unstable, and as such is still vulnerable to unwanted interference from both outside and itself, as artificially manipulated ether has a tendency to bend back. To enter a room, the door must be open. This fact is what has stopped humanity from having an immense supply of a "universal" matter. Multiple studies and experiments have attempted to achieve this miracle substance by tampering with both Id and ether to no avail. The nature of Ether remains immovable by anything that isn't itself and any attempts to block-out outside interference or prolong it's forced adjustments prove ineffective, all purely Id fabricated material only lasting short-term before their artificial frame bends.

An Unfortunate Breakthrough
Continued studies within the Renaissance Project, a lasting study regarding sentience within Id beings both in origin and otherwise, has provided some insight on the matter. In the past it has been unknown as to why sentient Id lose the natural process that allows them to absorb and assimilate the cognitive framework of other Id, turning the fickle and changing nature of non-sentient Id into something akin to Ether's more stable nature, immune to forced outside influence. It has been discovered that when Id becomes sentient, it's nature gains the ability to regulate itself, acting like Id able to take in external facets or acting like stable ether becoming indifferentiable from it except that it can retain all the changes it has collected while being or deciding to be unstable. A simple analogy to explain would be that it has gained a sense of identity, capable of changing or enduring in accordance with this identity.

This active stabilization is precisely what the miracle matter studies have been hoping to achieve, programmable ether. If science manages to uncover the process behind etherious destabilization and stabilization, the would have a powerful processing technique. Destabilizing ether into Id to tamper and manipulate it's very reality, then have it regulate itself into a substance that retains it's newfound traits while regaining the characteristic that makes its tampered reality enduring, akin to opening a display cabinet, changing its contents, and locking it shut so no one else can change it again.

This innovation will without a doubt change the world, achieving the alchemical dream, but the discovery of this process has been purely from observation, and further study requires a sample to work with, and the only usable samples are living ones. As such, until an alternative is found, application of this hypothetical technique is illegal as it would entail either harvesting people for this material or human experimentation.

The Decayed Dogma
Aside from the uncountable etherical concerns, these discoveries had revealed many enigmatic implications. The knowledge that Id has the theoretical potential to stabilize back to ether while retaining the changes during its unstable time as Id has even further blurred the line between the etherious and the Id. As demonstrated by the very existence of sapient Id beings, this process may have been a natural phenomenon and must have happened repeatedly in the past.
Many questions have risen out of this understanding. Is Id the reason why Terrestria has such an inordinate diversity that could only be achieved by hundreds of ongoing Cambrian explosions? Can victims of remnant transformation be saved by stabilization back into ether? Does the stability of an entity's ether dictate whether they could be sentient or not? Have the Renaissance retained their consciousness, or have they truly lost and regained it, and if so are they the same consciousness? These and many other questions still retain an veneer of mystery even today.
