Young Survivor

In the early days after the withering populace of the once prosperous planet crept underground to their fallout shelters and emergency bunkers, the people entertained themselves with literature they had deemed useful enough to save from the surface. Weeks of emptiness, it was preferable to read manuals and classics than stare back at the masses of concrete staring back at you. There is however only so many times you can read the same thing. Most bunkers were made by the same company, PRE-PARED, a multinational corporation specializing in cold storage and doomsday preparations. Deemed too obvious by many consumers but mandated by law PRE-PARED had to include a manual with their bunkers, in as many languages as possible and as many pages to it would seem. But the staff at PRE-PARED seem to have had an interesting sense of humor, adding a section in the middle. A comic, with no words but many illustrations. Young Survivor, with its lack of words but telling a story of a child of indeterminate gender living on the surface, was eventually dusted off around the world buy thousands of shelter dwellers, "a (prolonged) instant hit". It was a relief to those underground to see images no matter how simple of what life might be afterward in a more light-hearted way, something they could show to their children. Many families of all different languages could make up stories, once the books wore out others drew their own with their own spin on classic tales or something new. But all of them had a common theme. Hope.

The legacy of Young Survivor continues today. Without the current application of such historical copyrights and the lack of the presence of the defendant PRE-PARED, many outfits have created their own media of the main character. Ever The Explorer is the current reincarnation of the protagonist, in this a young Aeronaught with a mission to the stars. It's unknown who the publisher is but the story is a monthly sensation available in almost any newspaper across the globe. Many believe due to her current exploits that this character may be propaganda for a particular nation leader with a recent rise to power, however, no one has yet to be able to publish their thoughts on this.
