Kingdoms of Terrath: Shiban
A kingdom built on the game of social grace and envy, the Kingdom of Gold is eloquently ruthless.
Assets
Shiban is quite well known for their gold and jade. It is what makes up the most beautiful palace in all of Terrath, after all. However, much of Shiban's money comes from crops (rice, wheat, etc) and jewelry (usually jade or gold). It has a pretty good military and navy, but Shiban's elephant cavalry is something of a legend among the other Kingdoms.
History
Shiban is one of the only kingdoms to have a somewhat clear understanding as how it was formed. It was written down in a poem in a early, primitive version of Shibanese, called Batonese. It states that a man named Shi Bato received a message from a mysterious goddess, at the time called Sekiya, that told him to go east until he found a pond with a single lily pad in it. There, he would build his kingdom, Shiban. Some have argued such info shouldn't be taken as fact, due to the age and medium it was acquired, but many claim that it only supports what is already theorized to be true.
In 203, Emperor Da Yao united the small city states and tribes along the east coast, expanding Shiban. In 221, Da Yao also made the plans for the throne room and the gardens for The Jade Palace. Unfortunately, he would be killed in a battle with the city state Talun in 222, so he would never see it built.
However, his son Lihan Yao, would make it his life mission to build the palace. He would never live in it, but he did see it through to its finishing stage. He died in the war that defeated the Talun and their allies in 243, just a year before the palace was declared complete. His son, Han Yao, would be the first to live in The Jade Palace and the last of the Yao Dynasty.
In 345, Shiban took over the rest of the area that make up Shiban today.
However, in 389, the provinces of Shiban were broken apart by riots and corrupt officials, shattering Shiban into many little dynasties. This caused many wars, famines, and general chaos among the dynasties as they fought for control and power. In 537, the Yasioki Dynasty and the Hakan Dynasty reformed into Shiban and once again became provinces. By 590, all of the dynasties had been reclaimed as provinces of Shiban.
Shiban didn't do much but grow as a economic powerhouse until around 802, when a series of boarder skirmishes set off a declaration of war with Aetha, a neighboring power. There were many battles, but one called The Battle of The Mountains lead to a draw. Emperor Mitsu Kan and King Elrich signed a 30 year peace treaty. This lasted until around 910, when Aetha started expanding beyond the Shibanese-Aethan boarder.
Shiban and Roskovan made an alliance in 914 against Aetha when Aetha began to invade Roskovan.
In 939, Shiban lost a battle, in which Emperor Minso Kan was killed. His only child was a daughter named Matsuni Kan, and in the heat of war women were officially aloud to become Empresses under dire circumstances.
With the help of Renzinbar, Aetha lost the war in 1049. Shiban and the other kingdoms have had some semblance of peace ever since.
