The Blues
It is a common side-effect from several of the street drugs that belong to the opioid family. Originally intended for medical use, the sedative and pain-relieving effects of the drugs soon caused a rapid rise in demand. At first, these substances were used for more altruistic tasks: easing the pain of the commonfolk, assisting unsanctioned but necessary procedures and even earning reputation as a sleep-assist. After not too long, however, these substances could be tied to assassinations by poisoning, domestic violence and premature euthanasia (i.e. accidental overdose). As the use of the opioids became more abundant, anomalous new conditions developed, some as simply mild manifestations of the side-effects while others were serious enough to cause panic. One such condition, defined by its unique effects on the skin tone and brain chemistry of the individual suffering from it.
The Blues, as it became commonly known, is a condition arising from the use of several drugs within the opioid family. These drugs, often sharing a blueish or greenish hue, would sometimes cause the user's skin to turn a subtle shade of blue. This was considerably more evident on the lighter skinned races, but existed for those of a darker complexion too. Coupled with the strange skin tone, this condition is known to cause bouts of rapid-onset depression, hearkening to the ambiguity of the name.
