Shining Superior

A title held exclusively by the leader of the The Temple of the Blazing Sun, carrying with it the reverence and responsibility of an entire religion. A religion that spans all across the known world, the one chosen to take on this responsibility is selected using a process unfettered by mortal meddling. No applications may be made for the position, nor claims by birthright. The selection process is one steeped in mystery, abstracted by several layers of divine intervention. All that is known for sure is that the Shining Superior is chosen during a process known as The Trial of the Sun.
It is said that those chosen to partake in the Trial are chosen by Lathander himself, notified by messenger angels that they are to appear before the Council of the Sun - yet another mysterious group whose existence is obfuscated by myth and legend. Reportedly only selected from those within the clergy, it is believed only the most devout and pure of faith may be chosen for this position. However, there are whispers of individuals outside of the clergy being summoned to partake. Rumours told with disgust and disapproval, they are often dismissed as anti-religious propaganda, created to dismantle the spirit of the faithful. Regardless of whether these whispers prove true, it is known that only the final individual of those chosen for the Trial has their participation known - the record of the rest falling away to unwritten history.

Accoutrements & Equipment

The venerated Mantle of the Sun's Chosen is bestowed upon the individual chosen, along with the Holy Staff of the Blazing Sun.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

Although there has only ever been one recorded case of this, dismissal from the position is done so with the individuals immediate and spectacular demise. The only example of this being a pillar of fire incinerating the individual, their place of residence and everything else within a thousand feet.
