Sæhrímnir's Hunt
Every year, on the 'Day of the Æsir', the people of Stenhus gather together and celebrate from sun up to sun down. A huge festival is organised, employing the help of all able-bodies in the village. A beloved tradition, that has evolved over the years, has impressively managed to maintain the balance between tradition and progression. Bringing the entire village together, ensuring that everyone has a part to play and an activity to enjoy. One of the most popular of these activities is the event known as 'Sæhrímnir's Hunt'. A complex and challenging event that pits the skills of all participants to the test.
The rules are as follows:
- There are 3 rounds for participants to score points, each round scored independently.
- For each participant that enters (to a maximum of 10) a chicken is placed into a sand arena.
- The participants are then given 60 seconds to catch one of these chickens. No more than one may be acquired.
- Points are score based on speed of acquisition.
- Participants without a chicken will not take part further.
- The remaining participants then move through a series of workbenches that facilitate the beheading, plucking, disemboweling and then preparing of the chicken.
- Points are scored at each station, with a disqualification being applied for taking longer than an hour.
- Once prepared, the participants are to prepare a fire and spit to cook the chicken.
- Once cooked, and carved, slivers of the chicken are served to the judges elected for the tasting.
- The judges then score the chicken based on its colour, flavour and preparation.
- The highest score for each round is awarded bonus points.
- The scores for each round are tallied up, the totals being recorded for each participant.
- Penalties are then applied for lapses in sportsmanship/decorum/etc.
- The highest scoring participant is considered to be the winner.
