Jotunoglyphs are a classification of strange, runic symbols commonly found on ruins and artifacts dating back to the
Age of Giants. While many attempts have been made at deciphering the meaning behind these runes, all attempts thus far have proven unsuccessful.
Dispersal
Archaeological sites bearing Jotunoglyphs have been uncovered throughout
Crestfall, although the largest concentrations of glyphs have been found in the regions of Gryttrheim,
Drang and Wiegland. Comparison between Jotunoglyphs recovered from different sites has revealed little to no variation between them, implying that the runes may have been part of a standardized language used universally throughout Giant civilization.
Translation
Thus far, any and all attempts to translate the meanings behind the Jotunoglyph runes has proven to be a fruitless endeavor. This is due in no small part to the fact that recovered runes appear interact in strange and unpredictable ways when exposed to
arcane magic: when subjected to magic spells used to aid in translations, such as
comprehend languages, the runes are described as "twisting" and "swimming" across the field of vision of the mage performing the spell, rendering them unreadable due to their inability to be perceived under a magical lens.
This resistance to magic may imply that the Jotunoglyphs contain a type of magic of their own, albeit one that is ancient and alien to the point of being completely incompatible with the arcane magic of the Modern Era. Exposure to other spells, such as
detect magic, reveal no presence of magical auras surrounding the rules, suggesting that either the theory of the runes containing magic is unfounded, or that the magic contained within the Jotunoglyphs is indeed so alien that it stretches the commonly understood definition of what magic
is.
