Striped Black Lion

Basic Information

Biological Traits

The Striped Lion is a large, well-built cat. The sex of the lion is determined by a mane's presence: while a lion possesses one about the neck, a lioness does not. The species is among the largest cats in the world, rivaling both the Golden Tiger and Twilight Tiger in both length and weight.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Striped lions live in familial groups called prides, usually consisting of fifteen lions. The largest prides have thirty or more. At least several adult males and adult females live in each pride and any cubs sired by the males. Sometimes, these lions live alone or in pairs - a phenomenon more common for males than for females. Males are more likely to defend the pride's territory from encroaching threats, due to their greater size and bulk. Females hunt and provide meat for the pride. Lions mate after several years. Lionesses remain in the same pride their entire lives, while lions leave after a few years to join a new group.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Striped lions are highly sought-after for placement in the menageries of the world's monarchs. Also, they are occasionally hunted by kings and warriors to prove bravery. Their fur is known for its intricate patterns and is turned into cloaks in the savannah region of Suyama. The meat is consumed as part of manhood rituals and after successful hunting trips. In Bartura and Hetmira, generous hunters often donate the meat to the famished poor and keep the skin for themselves.
