Although religious and cultural tolerance is the Satri Empire’s overarching policy, opportunists in both Alayas and Suyama fan resentment against the Fahris. Although the Fahris are friendly with both the Barturi and Hetmiri to the north, they despise the humans to the south. The ancestors of the humans in the region fought several bloody wars with the Fahris formerly living there. The Fahris were wiped out, the survivors joining their kin in the north. They are not even human, some say, and not worthy of their respect or friendship. Hatred against the desert dwellers is due to skirmishes between rebellious Fahris tribes and these provinces' governments. Among targets of human scorn is their unique appearance and their one god. Many areas in those two Marusi have banned the worship of Umbalzun. The native priesthood saw this new god as detrimental. If this one god took over, it would squash their power. The Fahris in the south were much more aggressive in spreading their faith, and would not hesitate to use violence. This conflict coincided with the Alayas revolt. The Satri intervened to restore order Also, they halted the ethnic cleansing going on against the Fahris. After the rebellion was crushed, the Satri rule of religious freedom was reinstated. This decision, of course, enraged the Alayi, who despised the Fahris. Because of the Satri intervention, they also began to hate the Empire.
