Pandioneum

Purpose / Function

The Pandioneum serves three primary purposes. First is to offer a site of pilgrimage honoring all Diakai gods. The second is to serve as a location for several major religious festivals. The third is to provide a home for both Stormchangers and a small staff of priests. Inhabitants from the villages around the area are also permitted to sell what they produce to the priests and among themselves.

Design

In the slopes of Mount Dyotara, rests a sprawling paved road. It rises on the jagged mountainside, requiring a day’s worth of walking to reach the sanctuary. A massive gatehouse and wall guard the Pandioneum, securing the place like a fortress. Beyond the double gates lies a large platform, which hosts the markets and a host of smaller temples. The two largest temples enclose the main area on the left and right sides. A village-like complex occupies the third end, which consists of houses and storehouses.

Denizens

All Stormchangers have lodgings there, as do the priests of both the Divines and Daimons. Each of the twelve major Divines has three priests, those of lesser Divines have two. Meanwhile, the Daimons have a group of twenty managing their earthly needs.

Architecture

Architectural styles from throughout Diakai inspire the temples and other buildings. For example, the Temple of the Divines is loosely based on the Temple of Teronis in Holmeron, taking inspiration from its colorful facade. The Temple of the Daimons, meanwhile, emulated temples of that sort from the islands of Emedai.

History

The man who commissioned the construction of the current Pandioneum was Arakaois. He traveled the slopes of Mount Dyotara many times to train both fluidism and Stormchanging without causing too much havoc on those around him. In his time, there was a modest sanctuary at the base of the mountain honoring Teronis. By selling his services for seventy years to various city-states, he raised enough money to commission the Temple of the Daimons, the Temple of the Divines, and living complexes. These structures formed the foundation of the Pandioneum.
