The Bloodrose Curse Condition in Teneberilla | World Anvil

The Bloodrose Curse

The worst way to make a person suffer is to make those they care about loathe them. The Blood Rose curse is an ancient and long forgotten spell used by ancient Germans. Its casting has since been lost, but it effects are horrible and bring despair.

Transmission & Vectors

The curse cannot be transmitted.

Causes

The Bloodrose Curse is caused by someone physically cursing the target with an esoteric ritual.

Symptoms

Once cursed, the afflicted immediately hears a voice in their head, that continues to tell them to do horrible things. If they refuse to listen to it, it causes them headaches and other physical pain until it actually starts to wound and injure them. This suffering will continue to increase until the afflicted dies or commits the atrocious act. From then on, everyone killed by the afflicted will join in that choir of voices. The voices are particularly insistent on bringing pain to the ones you love.

Treatment

There is no known cure - or even treatment - for the Bloodrose Curse. While it could potentially be dispelled by high level magic users, those afflicted often don't live long enough to see one. It's said that the curse would be removed if you sacrificed your life for another, but well, then you'd be dead anyway...

Prognosis

Normally, someone afflicted with the curse will either die of hemorrhaging and blood loss as they fight off the curse's demands, or be killed by those around them in self defense.

Prevention

The only preventative measure is not to piss off a witch or wizard who knows how to cast it.

History

Long ago, ancient Germanic tribes used the Bloodrose Curse as the most horrible execution they could inflict on someone. It was considered cruel fairly immediately afterwords, and was slowly phased out for other methods. Old books, however, still discuss it.
