Yai'nasi

Yai are creatures who are born of the elemental planes, and whose bodies are wholly or partially suffused with the elemental energies of those planes. The society of the elemental courts is highly stratified, with greater status being afforded to those who have greater levels of elemental power.   The Yai'tan are the highest tier of mortals in the elemental courts. Yai'ants are the second tier of elemental mortals. The lowest tier of mortal in the elemental courts is the Yai'nasi.

Physical Description

Yai'nasi vary wildly in appearance, as their heritage includes both an aspect of one of the six elemental courts, and one of the miriad of humanoid races on Temnia. A Yai'nasi could be a dwawrf with fire elemental lineage, or an ylvani with heritage from the plane of positive energy.

In society

Yai'nasi are rare and alien creatures on the material plane. Their outlandish appearance and palpable aura of power marks them as dangerous. They are, in both a social and physical sense, outsiders.   It is possible for Yai'nasi to be born to mundane humanoid parents, whose elemental heritage may have lain dormant for generations. Such children risk being seen as an ill-omen or the product of fiendish possession in societies or settlements that are not well aquiented with arcana.   Most yai'nasi are born and live the majority of their lives on an elemental plane, travelling to the material plane on business of the courts, or for their own reasons.

Relations

Yai'nasi do not have a native community of their own, and the mortal nations do not merit direct relationships with the elemental courts. Those yai'nasi born to mortal parents are noted for their strange appearance and uncanny abilities from an early age. Some accept this as a mark of destiny, and are accepted by their peers, while others are seen as ill-omens, cast aside or cast out, and in some cases even left to orphanages or abandonned entirely. Their relations vary greatly based on the society into which they are born, and their elemental heritage.

Naming Traditions

Yai'nasi born to mortal parents typically have names that are drawn from their parents' societal norms.   Some will style their own names, either directly referencing their elemental heritage, or incorporating words and phrases from their elemental language. Such names can be born from an embrace of their supernatural gifts, or as a symbol of rejection towards their mortal parentage.

Alignment and Philosophy

Yai'nasi moral outlook is widely varied, given that they are products of both elemental and humanoid parentage, and the variety of circumstances this creates in an yai'nasi's upbringing.

Adventures

Yai'nasi often live apart from mundane society. Even those who live within settlements find themselves on the margains. Such people will turn to adventure as a means of gaining acceptance from their peers, or merely earning a living. These are often loners who take up self-trained classes that take advantage of their natural gifts.   Others see their expressed heritage as portentous, and set out to fulfill the destiny that has been set before them. Many of these will take up religous callings, or join military or mercenary orders.
