Session 26: We're Here for Experience and Loot

General Summary

The party continued their journey south towards Faelorn'roi. After several days' journey, they finally found themselves out of the highlands and amongst the vast sweeping plains of Southern Solara. Various members of the party worked towards their separate goals as the caravan traveled: Medran Emberborn sat in the night reading his Demonomicon, Elrohir Battlebard attempted to learn more from Davrilindil Lantandal, Gregory Blakhuv attempted to determine if his dagger of venom was cursed, Morgran Forgehardt sought divine discernment in finding the rest of his blade, and Ronin was Ronin, always vigilant and curious.   A few days before the party's planned arrival at Stratfordshire, their path was blocked by a large herd of sheep making passage. The three young shepherds apologized for the inconvenience and, after a quick discussion amongst themselves, offered the party a job. They were moving pastures following a sudden increase in wolf activity in the area and would willingly pay the party to travel the day with them and sit extra guard for the evening. After a (long) discussion, the party agreed to help.   The rest of the day held pleasantries and calmness, a stark contrast from most of the days prior. The shepherds, especially the youngest, Stephen, barely more than a boy, showed great interest in the diverse backgrounds and adventuring experience of the party. In return, Ronin wished to learn everything he could about the mysterious creatures called sheep.   Around the evening campfire, stories were exchanged. Stephen told scary stories surrounding a mythical creature of the region known only as "the Watcher." Elrohir responded with the tales of Horros the Brave, an amalgam of the party's adventuring stories reflecting varying levels of truth. All in all it made for a pleasant evening.   It was during the second watch that the gnawing began. They had heard wolves at a distance earlier in the night, but it wasn't until the earliest hours of the morning that they made an attack. The group roused quickly and ran at the large dire wolf eating a sheep. The pack quickly surrounding the group, helmed by three hulking werewolves.   As the group made their final blows against the werewolf pack leader, they watched as he transformed back into the figure of a farmer they had met earlier in the day. A quick search of the bodies and the surrounding area resulted in some coins, a recipe for a Potion of Cure Lycanthropy, and the body of Stephen, the young shepherd, mauled to death in the fray. The return back to the main road was much more somber.   A few days later, the party arrived in Stratfordshire. They did some quick shopping before stores closed for the evening, as well as checked the notice board for any odd jobs or rumors. The one that stuck out most to them was a help wanted ad titled, "There's Something in My Basement... and It Ain't Rats!" The party followed the directions on the ad and found themselves at the establishment of one Asad al'Sarif, a spice merchant flustered at the creatures accidentally let loose in his basement. With some quick negotiations, NDAs were signed and the price of the job was set. The party headed into the basement, battling 4 black dragon wyrmlings. Medran was nearly knocked out in a spray of acid, and quickly retreated to the upper level. Following the death of the final dragonling, he huffed over to Asad, burned the NDA, and stomped out of the building. The party left to the sound of wailing, Asad distraught over his lost wares, wrecked in the fray between the party and the wyrmlings. Well, at least they got paid.   Money in hand, the party headed for an end, knowing they had finally arrived at the last leg of their journey. Soon Davrilindil would be out of their hair, hopefully for good this time.
