Galbrok Mycocelium Species in Tellus | World Anvil

Galbrok Mycocelium (GAL-brock mike-oh-SEA-liam)

The meadows and dells of Greendell Valley were, at one time, a rather lovely and green gorge cleft into the Pikespine Peaks in Western Feynor. Then, however, Galbrok the The Necrodruid betrayed his kin and began the breeding and grafting necessary to grow the The Galbrok Tamarind; a vile, carnivorous tree. During the rancid process, the healthy network of mycelium that once anchored the thriving microbiome of those meadows together, became corrupted by his oily influence and vomitous magics. Take, for instance, the following true story, captured using a psi-crystal by Galbrok himself, which was recovered after that fateful day in 5426NG
...had been running for almost an hour, now. Escaping the cursed valley had been an excruciating task, but she had finally managed it with a mixture of cleverness and extreme amounts of dumb luck. Up ahead, a comforting yellow glow began to grow from a pinpoint to a dot. A few more, minutes and her short, Gnomish legs pumped her out of the cave entrance like a Gnomes mini-golf ball popping out of the base of a plasticine volcano. She even made a happy little popping sound as she did, and veered off into a meadow down-slope of Stonegrey Mountain. After a short while, with no hints of pursuit, her fear gave way to her weary body, and she slowed to a fast walk, glancing over her shoulder nervously the entire time. Suddenly, she frowns a little and stops. She seems to be having trouble with her left foot. Then a surprised look as she realizes her right foot also seems to be stuck. Her face crumbles into a sad look of surprise and panic as she realizes what is happening; and only a moment later, we do, as well. Gray tendrils of smooth pallid, hunger, spiraled and snaked their way up her struggling body, down her mouth and...
We will end the descriptive portion of the presentation here, as the rest is rather gruesome. Leave it at saying it was mercifully efficient and quick. The hyphae of the network had grown and adapted to its new, carnivorous nature. This mycelium is large, extremely dangerous to mammalia, and it is unclear whether or not it has spread to other locales.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The fungal rot spreads like a network of fine threads just underneath the surface of the soil.

Biological Traits

It will continue to reproduce and grow until it reaches a point of critical mass wherein it can no longer sustain its ow size, and will die off.

Genetics and Reproduction

It will just keep growing until it reaches a natural point of critical mass.

Growth Rate & Stages

In technical terms, it grows like wildfire.

Ecology and Habitats

It has only ever been observed in Greendell Valley

Dietary Needs and Habits

Warm blooded creatures. It waits in hiding until it senses its prey, then strikes quickly with pseudopodia resembling pale grey vines, with a sickly pallor to their smooth, moist skin.

Biological Cycle

Unknown. It is, however, carnivorous and very large.

Unknown; other than proximal identification of prey.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

Grasses and other flora allow it to grow unmolested, and it, in turn, holds moisture for them.
