The Aquaregis

The Aquaregis is a Fidiran seafaring vessel designed by Diopio of Falsyth, an engineer who lost his family in a shipwreck. The cause of the wreck remains a mystery. Thus Diopio set out to devise a vessel that would be unsinkable. While vessel is truly invincible, the Aquaregis has been designed with contingencies and intricacies to make it safer than its contemporaries. Originally conceived as a transport vessel, the Aquaregis evolved into a vessel of war approximately halfway through its development.

Aquaregis, the Water King

The vessel's bow and greater hull incorporate a leonine motif drawn from the legend of the King of Red Lions; a great king who besought a powerful spirit to use magic to transform him into a ship so that he could ferry a hero across the treacherous waves. The hero fought back an old evil threatening the kingdom, and thus the king's humility saved his people. The legend often describes the boat as small, capable of holding only a few people. The Aquaregis, however, is an immense vessel of war, built to intimidate its foes and inspire its allies.

The hull is deep, and thus it must avoid shallow water and reefs. Polished redwood, hardened with layers of resin and wax, make up the ship's exterior. The ship is part of the Fidiran naval fleet. There has been much discussion about exploration missions given the ship's rugged size and formidable body. At present, however, it sails the eastern coast of Fidira, punishing piracy and slavery. Its captain is Renault deBois.

Propulsion

The Aquaregis has three sails to catch the wind, and three banks of oars which are usually manned in solitude. During unruly weather, however, pairs may be assigned to oars. Each bank contains ten oars.

Weapons & Armament

Ten cannons a side with one rear and fore, a Dragon Harpoon, the Lionsbreath.

Armor and defense

Iron plate on the bow, though largely decorative in function.

Communication Tools & Systems

The ship has a sanctuary built into the main mast with room for two people. From this small room, a watchman has a wide view of the surrounds, and can communicate with light or, rarely, magic.

Hangars & docked vessels

The Aquaregis has eight small lifeboats for use in emergency. Somewhat hubristically, the number of passengers these boats can carry is a mere one hundred and twenty-eight.
