Moiraine
When Cerenos Senesse found an abandoned elf child on the slopes of the Twilit Range, he assumed her parents had been victims of Lucent. The babe lay there silently, and the Flame-touched elf at first thought the child was dead. Her icy blue eyes were alert, however, as he approached her. In accordance with the old tenets of Atarangi Village, he took the girl in as his own. He bestowed upon her the name Moiraine and raised her as a daughter alongside his son, Faracid.
She took to the arts of the village well, but was always on the outside. It was not due to any prejudice -- children of a number of races had been saved and raised by villagers -- but rather due to something within Moiraine herself. There was an awkwardness about her, a hesitant uncertainty that made it easy for others to look over and past her without thought. In social situations, she grew flustered and anxious, and awareness of this grew as she did. This insight, rather than ameliorating this habit, worsened it.
It was a mundane power of invisibility. This, though a difficulty in her social life, served her well in her training. Moiraine excelled at task requiring stealth, and despite development of curves at a young age, she developed a remarkable level of dexterity alongside them. Her acrobatics and accuracy with thrown weapons rivalled that of kapua, and certainly surpassed those of her peers. This, though, was not what set her apart from them.
There was always something a bit different from those around her. She trained alongside Geika, Hatari and Suigetsu, siblings who had been found in the wreck of a ship far to the south, and the sibling children of Cerenos, Faracede and Rana. Though not the only child among them from outside the village, she felt was the most out-of-place. Perhaps it was the fact that she alone had no siblings among the group, or her subservient interpersonal style. Whatever it was, this awkwardness soon began to infect other parts of her life like a cancer, and it weighed heavily on her heart and mind.
When she was fifteen, Cerenos gave her a mask in an attempt to help the girl manage her anxiety. It was a mundane mask, crafted by one of the village woodworkers. Her adoptive father told her that it contained the spirit of an ancient spirit of shadow,
