Tyrants of the Hills

"Oh, we're not tyrants, not all of us at least. We're not all that bad..."   -Sylen Vitsk

The Tyrants of the Hills is the name for the collection of noble houses and smaller countries who ruled over the countryside of Kysnscore in the early alliance between dragons and small folk. When governmental reach outside Redfell was slim following the Emergence, with refugees pouring into Kysncore, opportunistic lords took up residence in the countryside, forcefully claiming whatever land they could. Ruling with an iron grip, they took in refugees who sought shelter, yet only to use them as servants and slaves. The lands these lords claimed solidified the now smaller border of Kysnscore, which once consumed much of the continent. They ruled for decades in this manner until a group known as Syrika's Liberators rallied the people of Kysnscore, and later a recovered and reformed Delegation, against them.

Only a collection of these tyrants still remain: while some still cunningly and tyrannically rule their land, others have ceded their lands and power to the Delegation, while others shifted to more acceptable methods yet still through trade and deals to retain what they still hold.

Current Major Houses

While there are over a dozen houses who still remain on Kysnscore's countryside, what follows is a list of five of the largest and most influential houses.

House Vitsk

One of the most prominent houses still in defiance of Kysnscore's Delegation, House Vitsk and its various subsidiary houses remain ever a thorn in the side of the people of Kysnscore. The Vitsk family itself is mostly human with some very slight elven blood, though the multiple other families beneath them, as well as their disorganized yet effective mercenary armies, are composed of various races of small folk. The face of their house is Sylen Vitsk (NE male human noble), one of the few reasons the Tyrants of the Hills are still called tyrants.

House Jahur

House Jahur is considerably more docile than many of the other houses, yet they use their highly effective, magically-enhanced, irrigation and farming techniques to form an economic alliance with the rest of Kysnscore. Through this alliance, they retain their farmland to do with what they wish, in return for exporting their crops throughout the country (and to other Tyrants if they wish).

House Nimara

The elves of House Nimara seek mostly to keep to themselves, meddling in outside affairs as little as possible. The borders of their land are the smallest of the major houses, having been bought back bit by bit by the Delegation, though the borders they currently hold they staunchly defend. Few people on the outside, if any at all, know what House Nimara truly does, though many have suspicions they are hiding a dangerous secret.

The Blackpride Clan

The Dwarves of the Blackpride Clan hold much of the Pridefall mountain range along the northwest coast of Teldir, spreading beyond the borders of Kysnscore. They were a relatively influential clan who survived the events of the Emergence, having been established years before it. They claim they survived due to the deity from the plane of earth intervening and protecting them. They are working to reclaim the entire mountain range for themselves in the name of their deity Falgramm, which has caused them to clash with the people of Kysnscore.

Titan's Vigil

Though not quite a noble house, the hobgoblin clan now known as Titan's Vigil is stil grouped with the rest anyway, as they control considerable amounts of Kysnscore's land. Once a ruthless hobgoblin warband who pillaged and robbed anyone who could not defend themselves, one of their leaders, Zandrak, realized their skills could be put to better use, while still turning a profit. He began to make dealings with the Delegation, giving them the land along much of Kysnscore's border, as well as some funds and equipment, and in return they currently fight to defend the borders of Kysnscore from the demons of Dur'tikan and other attempted invaders.
