Bonds of Citizenship

I, Tavrin, devote my being as a bodyguard to Ba'Taxin in return for heightened comat capabilities. I understand that by signing this document, my soul is bound to the city of Sathinn and to the author of this document, and that breaking this contract will resilt in the immediate severance of my soul from my body, and i will be sentenced to punishment in the Nine Hells.   -Excerpt from a Bond of Citizenry by a mercenary
If any of the small folk desire entry and shelter in the devil-run city of Sathinn, they are first required to sign a contract binding them in service to the city or a devil who runs it. The terms and restrictions of the contract vary depending on the signer, although the signer is allowed to barter for a boon of sorts, although the magnitude of the restrictions are directly correlated with the size of the boon as well. Some simply ask for shelter in the city and are required service in return, others desire something larger.   When the document is signed, an unremovable tattoo manifests on the cheek of the signer, depicting a simple coin. The tattoo does allow anyone with it to understand and read infernal as if it was in common, but not speak or write in it.   The document contains magic capable of severing the signer's soul from their body, causing them to become soulless (article/race variant to come soon). The tattoo will change and become cracked down the middle, signifying the breaking of a promise. The breaker of the contract will also be hunted down by the author, or other devils or mercenaries, to be killed or punished.

Soulless

Soulless are a people who have broken their contracts with Sathinn. They appear similar to their old selves, yet completely drained of all color, instead appearing a drab grey. Most soulless flee the city when their contract is broken, often seeking protection in the lands of demons and angels.   This article was created for Summer Camp 2020
