Silver-eye Leviathan

Native to the salt flats, the silver-eye leviathans are beginning to die off. The mammoth creatures can grow up to 30 feet tall. They are mounted on four legs, and faintly resemble long legged wolves with elongated necks. Their fur is mostly yellowish-white, making them almost invisible in the salt flats, but the front of their foreheads grey with age, making them look like grey, floating orbs from a distance. The leviathans travel at an incredible 30 metres per second, meaning they can close in from a kilometre in just half a minute. They tend to kill up to 15 people before being done, generally eating them, and then dragging larger horses back to the salt coast to feed their young. They are also Known to hunt smaller whales that frequent the waters closer to the coast.

history

Silver eyes were known by natives of the salt coast from about 1027PF, but they were first documented by Ver'Kalah in 128PF, when they feasted on most of the Astaien settling party’s mounts, as well as half of the settling party members. Originally, the hordesmen were entirely helpless to fight Silver-eyes, with their shirt bows more or less entirely ineffective against the tough hides of the Leviathans, so the remnants of the settling party retreated north.
over the next few years, as Astaien grew, several attempts were made to safely enter the salt flats, but no weaponry was deemed effective agains the creatures. After almost 100 years of failure, the hordesmen began to employ camouflage. The flat nature of the salt flats meant the leviathans hadn’t needed to evolve better eyesight to see their prey (mostly desert bison), So hordesmen in robes matching the sandy hue of the salt flats were able to mostly enter undetected. This worked enough half of the time, with the silver eyes often spotting a sharp movement and closing the distance. This made it very hard for the hordesmen
