Duttar Leviathan

The Duttar leviathan is a behemoth creature that inhabits the deeper parts of the Eastern ocean. They can reach up to 40 Metres in length, with the average adult being about 32 metres. They are classified as amphibian, and biologists believe they cross oceans in the span of a day, and must have nesting ground somewhere, where they walk on the shore. The creatures contain incredible amounts of meat, fat, bone, and ivory, making them lucrative catches for advanced hunters, however, very difficult to kill. The mass of the creature is carried by four powerful, 5-6 metre long fins, and a wide tail for manoeuvring. It has teeth, not only huge ones commonly used for tearing, as they can swallow most sea-animals whole. They use energy very efficiently, and don’t have to eat a huge amount to sustain themselves, though they usually hunt swarms of fish and smaller whales. There face is like an alligators, though with eyes further back in the skull, and no scales.

History

Duttar leviathans are recorded in folklore as far as 500 years back, and are common knowledge amongst citizens of Teirun. Some religious sects believe them to be incarnations of gods, resulting in several arson attacks on the hunting Shipyards in desperate attempts to save ‘the gods’. Understandably the Hukrah has been trying to eradicate this sect. The leviathans rarely involve themselves, or are seen from the coast, so don’t have much history. They are believed to be fairly un-intelligent, and definitely not a risk to those who don’t go after them. Under Haugh Moros I, rhadin began constructing the feared Rhadinian Hunting Dreadhull , which specialise in hunting the massive creatures, and then harvesting its parts. The Dreadhulls only win about 60% of the time, But no man made ship before it has ever been so competent the match of a leviathan
House Winfor owns over 60% of the Rhadinian hunting navy, and has spent more. Money on manning and building the ships in the last 20 years than it has on Winfor’s healthcare system The Duttar hunting industry was originally exclusively government funded, but since the reign of Haugh Moros I it has become much more privatised industry, mostly controlled by the houses and ship owners
Duttar leviathan hunting is the most dangerous job available to any Rhadinian, with a higher mortality rate than the military
