Astaien
Eastern Capital of Ver'Kalah, salt capital of the world. Astaien is reputed as one of the most beautiful and prosperous cities in the world. The architecture is entirely old Kalahan, and the city dates back to 128PF. The city is meticulously planned, with streets Chartered and Designed hundreds of years before construction. The employment rates peak in 211AF at 97%, and stand at 93% in 245AF. The cost of such prosperity is autocracy. If a man is perfectly suited to a job after his education is complete, he is required to either take that job or enlist. Market employment saturation could cause employment gaps, which would lead to some people not getting jobs, so this system is strictly regulated.
the city is run by the eastern Warlord, whom is currently Saore Kalahsinn. Since the eastern Warlord is responsible for all the eastern Kalahan territory, the city is usually governed by Achar Kalahsinn, heir to the Eastern throne.
The ‘Salt capital’ is just north of the Distra Salt flats, and is responsible for 60% of continental salt exports. A lot of employment comes from this massive industry, it’s 1.2 million of Astaien’s 9 million involved in the salt industry in some way. Most work as harvesters, or on the docks, but quite a few are mercenaries who protect the Salt parties from Silver-eye Leviathans.
Over the next few centuries, Astaien continued to grow, eventually being established as the Eastern capital. Kalahan architects designed the city to house 11 million, with a building plan that would span over two centuries. The locals eventually worked out how and at what time to retrieve salt without attracting the Silver-eye Leviathans, and were able to sustain their economy without funding from the west.
the population had steadily climbed into the millions by the time Rhadin came to border the Ver'Kalah. The hordesmen dismissed them, deciding that the Auturian legions were a bigger threat, considering how long the two nations had been fighting.
after the first Kalah-Rhadin war, there were fears that the patriotism of Astaien would be broken, and many would leave, fearing how close the Rhadinians now were to the salt capital, but very few ended up leaving. The hate for Autur was replaced with a hate for Rhadin, and if anything the patriotism was bolstered. The city continued to flourish, only taking slight blows during the second and third Rhadin-Kalah wars, in which large amounts of Astaiens were killed under the command of the Kalahsinn warlords. This created a general dislike for the Kalahsinns, who run the city.

history
the city was founded by a hordesmen settler party from the east in 128PF. The area had been travelled before by various hordesmen parties, who had seen the abundance of salt and reported back to the authorities. Many of the unprepared settling party was killed by Silver-eye Leviathans, who would wreak havoc on the camp as well As taking food back into the salt flats, and all the way to the Astaien coves. When almost half of the previously 300 strong settling party was killed, the expedition leader, Dar Luen, retreated north to a more peaceful bay, where they set up camp and founded the city. As more settling parties arrived from the east, and the Kalahans began fully colonising the east, Astaien was bolstered in population as the western emperor sent funding and people to increase his reach. Astaien was a basing ground, with parties using it as a junction before reaching their eventual locations.Over the next few centuries, Astaien continued to grow, eventually being established as the Eastern capital.
