Adamantine Ships

Ships for taming the Current

"Mom, mom! That ship looks like a beaver or, or..."
"Honey, it's an Adamantine - it is supposed to sail the current."
"A platypus! Is it a platypus-ship, mom?"
- A Child's reaction when seeing an Adamantine Ship
One of the greatest offerings of the opulent Lavish Sea is the strange Roaringburn Current - A violent, rapid current on the very edges of the Cauldron of Creation has its own gifts for the innovative mind. As the first "Adamantine Rudder" was introduced, this challenge was eventually overcome. By the clever mind of the Swiftwater Company, Adamantine Ships are modified ships with added protection to the ships keel and hull and with a large, enforced rudder designed to withstand the currents of the Roaringburn. In addition to these changes, the ships also have a modified helm that slightly resembles a capstan in structure: A great, iron wheel laying sideways over the ships quarterdeck.

Navigation

Adamantine Ships are navigated by the entirety of its crew, who are required to be both agile and strong as the ships captain yells out their orders in the raging winds as the ships travel the Roaringburn. Adamantine Ships are not ships of any particular design, but the name "Adamantine" is coined and associated with ships that travel with the Adamantine Rudder. Adamantine Ships might be brigs, or even as small as sloops although they are rarely used for long-distance travel due to their small size. The timetable of these ships is peculiar as well when compared to other ships, for the ship moves in turns and the captains are expected to recognise when to daringly exit the Roaringburn current - Just for a long enough of a time for the crew to rest before the next days shifts. Ships travelling the Roaringburn rarely have their sails unfolded, as in the end they would only get tangled in the great speeds.
