New Wharf
A new coastline formed in the wake of The Shattering, and it was here that the humans, tritons and sahuagin, the people who had once resided in the free nation of Wharf began to rebuild. With the aid of the dwarves and gnomes of the north and the free people of the elves who had resided in the south they regrew and out of stone and stout trees built themselves a new city. In honour of the home they had lost, the kingdom that fell the day the earth broke apart they named this city New Wharf and it has reigned as the capital of the nation, and of its own duchy ever since.
Demographics
Most of the population of New Wharf is human, with many of them being fisherman of craftsman who live closer to the water. There is a trade district where the population is weighted more towards the dwarven members who had come down from the near mountain to set their roots. Beyond this there is a healthy Triton and Sahuagin community, each in their own, remade homesteads, that exist off of the coast beneath the waves though they are under the banner of New Wharf. Beyond this there is a smattering of other races that make up the more cosmopolitan center of the city.
Government
The City of New Wharf is under the direct control of the Duke of New Wharf, currently Duke Xu Yoaming, who's family had taken over the duchy two hundred years prior when the previous duke died heir-less in an accident at sea. His family is of a rich noble stock from the old borders of Ultan before The Shattering, the most eastern reaches of the Empire in the lush forests that the Empire maintained.
The Arch Duchess also resides technically within the border of New Wharf in an underwater mansion within Triton Lands.
Defences
New Wharf boasts a powerful naval presence with the aid of both Triton and Sahuagin tribes assuring enemy ships are damaged beyond repair or lost to great summoned waves, their crews fed to the great shark pods that are kept by the sahuagin. Beyond this the dwarves of the mountain, under the command of Duchess Ironbrand have been refitting its walls with new, experimental weapons; black powder canons and magitech abjuration systems.
Industry & Trade
New Wharf is the largest coastal city on the eastern edge of Helfdome receiving plentiful trade from both Aldabryn to the south and Warden to the east, as such it often has an influx of non-natives trading their wares which are then ferried out by the road system to the land locked nations further into Helfdome.
Guilds and Factions
The Imperial Trades Guild has a healthy branch here with access to such a rich port providing access to materials and resources from abroad.
Keeping in tradition there is also a Imperial Mint withing New Wharf city that is heavily monitored by the crown, they provide mostly gold and silver to the reaches of the north under strict guidelines from the Empire.
There is also a Fisherman's Union to ensure that captains don't abuse crews on extended fishing trips, assuring that if there is a situation where a crew is forced to take control of a ship they are able to do so without being punished by the city after a thorough investigation.
History
New Wharf, built along the coast where the previous Wharf had existed was founded and constructed during the fourth age. At the time of its creation as a duchy ruling of the city and the duchy itself was passed to Duke Viz'aren Raidall, the Raidall family then controlled the city for the following age until, nearing the end of the fourth age, Duke Are'varo Raidall died at sea.
Replacing him was the Yaoming clan from the far east, originally a retainer of Daimyo Nakimura. Since then the Yaoming clan has controlled the city and the duchy with great skill and pride.
Most notable moments in the city's history include the tidal wave in the year 1241A4 which caused massive damage to the city and weakened its defenses. An incursion of Marrow who had burrowed from their places and the deep to arise from the waters of the Umoven Swamplands and wreak havoc across the kingdom. As well as the stampede of 924A4 when, being driven out of the forest by some unknown force hordes of dinosaurs charged into the village surrounding the city's walls.
Architecture
Most structures in New Wharf are made of heavy dark stones that are a dark grey almost blue-ish black that have been pulled out from the coast line and the previous city. Beyond this there are a few wooden structures and structures that were made by the hands of skilled druids. Surrounding the walls villages are made of mostly wooden homes with clay roofs.
Geography
New Wharf as a city lies in the Valley of a large mountain to the north and several smaller hills to the west and south. It sits upon the coast and boasts a fairly large harbour.
