Primordial Peak

The moniker for the tallest peak in the Glass-Spear range, this behemoth of an icicle like mountain's height is as of now unmeasured. The peak is believed by many to house all manner of supernatural being or energy within its glacial grips. The Valley of the Mists is actually, to hear some versions of the myth, a forced projection on reality by whatever is hidden deep within the glacial peak. The most common myth, well is where the name comes from. Many whom live near the peak claim to have seen a true primordial, an actual dragon, a true blooded first child of the Primordial Forgers. Dragons were and are still considered extinct, though many lesser cousins survive. After the Draconic Wars, it has long been believed they were all truly wiped out. However the myth persists, as every few years, some drunkard watching the sky, or a hunter or fisherman working the north bank, will claim to see a great, grey scaled beast, reptilian, moving through the sky making a beeline for the glacial peak, disappearing into the mist and clouds. Others even claim to have heard the creature's voice or even seen it, in the Valley of the Mists. But they can never properly remember what they saw or what was said to them, a product of the extreme cold exposure they have all suffered. It is even believed that the wild ice storms that ravage the peak and the surrounding area, starting and stopping as suddenly as they appeared, sometimes for but minutes, sometimes lasting weeks, the myths of the mountain suggest it is a well. A center and meeting point for clashing leylines. Other tall tales suggest the dragon is responsible. Other still even suggest, without any existing evidence, that the region is an Abyssal Wound.

No one has ever summited the mountain, and the few bold fools who've dared to try over the decades have never returned.

Geography

A cold, barren glacial mountain range surrounds this behemoth of a peak, jutting forth far above its nearest neighbors. A tower of crystalline ice, pure, seemingly untouched, with all the shades one could expect, spots that could seem as if openings, caverns or caves perhaps. It is known that at least down near the bottom of this mountain, there are climbable stretches, however nothing is known above about the five thousand meter mark, and even then very little is known. The height of this mountain is actually not documented, for it is not known. A few bold fools have tried, but none have succeeded. Some have come back failures, having to give up. Some have come back unwilling to talk about it, the lone survivor of their expedition whom attempted it. No one has made the attempt in the last decade or two, or at least not publically.

Of course, cold and barren though it may seem, the Primordial Peak does not have this name for no reason. Many whom live nearby, on the islands of Lake Foljeim, have seen...something. And that is where the name comes from. The local myths suggest a great scaled slate grey beast on wing. Some claim it to be a twisted monster, or a true Nightmare from the Abyss. Some versions however, and the version that has travelled far beyond the Evani Baruntacht, is the version that claims it to be a true Primoridial, a first child of the world, a True Dragon, claiming the beast, with its infinite wisdom and power, is the cause, and caretaker, of the Valley of Visions. Some even claim that the Primordial Peak is perhaps not as natural or empty as it may seem. Perhaps that massive towering 'peak' is actually the lair of this creature, this Chilengorvanix, as more than one story or tall tale names the beast, and oddly, the name seems to stay consistent. The myths or local legends vary wildly in scale from guiding lost hunters or fishing boats home, saving lost explorers far and abroad, to caretaking the Valley of Visions. Of course the darker tales exist, including claims that the great beast is actually responsible for whatever happened at Fir Hallows almost five hundred years ago. The legend is that over night the town was consumed by a gale, an icestorm that seemed alive, enraged, furious, and the next morning it was left as it is now, the only building entirely undamaged, seemingly, is the Kartheartigan church. Of course no one has ever seen this beast twice, and it seems anyone who did was convienently alone. In all honesty, half the brave would be adventurers come out and go to explore the mountains and peaks in hopes of finding the frozen bodies of those lost, in case they had treasure worth taking. So with every group whom goes missing without a trace, the legend, and therefore the temptations of potential wealth or reward grow, as the stories of the fineries and treasures lost with each group circulate.

Ecosystem

A true glacial range, cold, barren, and with very little in the way of life to be met. Those things you do meet....well let us just say they will have ill intentions. Be it foul yeti, feared Ice Joten, Icemaw Howlers or worse, it is generally safe when travelling the Glass-Spear Range, but especially in or on the lower reaches of the Primoridal Peak, to assume that if you meet someone or something, violence is an appropriate response. Plants dont really grow near here, it would seem, or if they do, they must be in sheltered or protected glacial river valleys or coves, protected from the brutal weather. Once on the mountains, or on the peak, most everything is ice, snow, more ice, and wants to eat you.

Localized Phenomena

The Everchill Storm

This seems a neverending, moving ice storm that moves all about the Glass-Spears range, but never strays far from the Primordial Peak. This is the weather described by in the events of the Frost Vision myths. This storm seems..hateful. Spiteful. It does seem that if you are caught in the edges of this, or may Sir Kartheart show mercy, the heart of it, the cold is not...just natural. It is described as spiteful, hateful, vicious. As 'biting' or 'tearing' into those within. Indeed an excerpt from part of the stories of Azila Ironcliffe does it the best justice;

"The cold was so harsh and violent, as if some beast of wind and water, some powerful eldritch force of ice and snow were screaming at our very bones, ordering us to submit."

"I remember keenly the feeling of the cold biting, ripping, tearing at me as if a thousand teeth."

Azila Ironcliffe, excerpts from her testimonial, as recorded by Witch-Hunter Percival, Tova 3rd, 1121.

History

The history of the Primordial Peak is actually not well known besides the event that has truly brought it into everyone's mind and thoughts, the event that awakened that curiosity all those centuries ago that still thrives today. The supposed events around Azila Ironcliffe, the gift of 'Frost Vision' and the Valley of Visions. All these things and events tie to the Primordial Peak, but of the physical mountain itself, next to nothing is truly known, as it has never been conquered, no Suranthi has ever been to its summit and returned.

Tourism

The Primordial peak does draw its fair share of bold adventurous groups of course, which is not surprising. What is more surprising is that there is no real..'marked' or 'mapped' route to the base of the mountain. Though the peak itself is visible from a great distance, one can mark their travels by it....it almost seems as if the reality of the lands around it, close to it, warp and shift. Some magisters whom have curiosity of such things wonder if the Everchill Storm is in fact a geostorm, that is an Abyssal storm that instead of other magic phenomenia occuring at random, wildly, uncontrolled, this storm causes geo-shifts, a last remaining breath of the Abyssal Sundering perhaps. Such a theory is an interesting one, if unproven, as such mages are pragmatic and feel no great desire to prove or disprove this theory, as it would place immediate and great risk on their lives, having to go there and investigate.

Ooh quite a mystery surrounding this landmark, nice. Makes one wonder if the dragons are truly gone :)

Feel free to check my new world Terra Occidentalis if you want to see what I am up to!

Well if we lucky we will find out depending what other prompts. If not...well when I run the adventure I'm building using these for a game group, I'll be sure to post what they meet when and if they manage to get here alive!!! :)
