Tech level and general design notes
This article is an overview of design intentions for the setting, what technology is allowed and what isn't. I'm also going to include notes on magic, social aspects, or anything else about the world because I might as well keep it here.
-Agricultural levels. Four-course crop rotation, seed drill, muscle powered reaping machine.
-Basic industry. Textiles, cotton gin, interchangeable parts, powered loom, steam powered blast.
-Transportation. Bicycle, railroad, steamship, sailing ship, screw propeller, macadam road.
-Materials. Crucible steel, friction match, rubber, paper.
-Information technology. Newspaper, iron printing press (250 pages per hour), public libraries, slide rule, business cards.
-Power. Coal, steam engine, power stones.
-No telecommunications. Long distance communication should be limited to what is available before anything like the telegram or telephone. This includes no long range magical communications, i.e. no sending. The only exception to this rule is "the green" that the druids have, which includes its own limitations. There will be a setting appropriate avian, like ravens, hawks, or pigeons, to communicate.
-No summoning magic or teleportation magic. It doesn't fit the narrative that I desire.
-Vehicles for travel should be limited to roughly 35 MPH. Give or take. Vehicles available are trains, motorcycles, mechanical horses, actual animals, things like that. Choices between animals and vehicles should be focused on player aesthetics and terrain type.
-Weapon and armor technology should be similar to medieval. Though there will be ancient weapons similar more modern stylings, but they will be rare.
-There are ipad-like devices (name pending) but instead of digital, they are magical. So copying them must be done manually, as a scribe, and digital copying techniques won't work.
-No electricity.
-No radio.
-No photography.
-No guns. I want this setting to feel like it has its roots in medieval fantasy
/* final fantasy 6*/
. I will add magitech weapons like handheld repeating crossbows or possibly arcane cannons that do explosions if I can get the feel right.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
