Runesmith

A runesmith is a person that allows Power Stones to be bound to Magitech items and devices.
To create a magical a runesmith does the following: First, they will identify the "personality" of the power stone he wishes to use. Power stones have their own quirks that the runesmith must work with and around. Second, the runesmith will find the "name" of the item he will turn into magitech. Every crafted item has a unique arcane "name" to it. Once the runesmith has done those steps they can begin writing runes that allows the stone and name to communicate and express the desired magical effect. Because of these subjective steps, runesmithing is often considered an artform over a scientific craft, though it requires knowledge of hundreds of different kinds of runes to work properly.
A magitech object with runesmithing requires skin contact with a person to function, a limitation of power stones. Though magically conductive materials, such as gold thread, can be wired into a magitech device so that direct contact with the stone isn't required. Such ranged touch enhancements only function for about 3 feet.
The runes required to use a Blood Stone as a power source are much more simple and have a universal "blood stone" rune, as bloodstones are already tamed and controlled via the person bonded to it. The strength of a blood stone can also reduce or eliminate the need for a proper name to etched into a magitech item, allowing more generic or "informal names" to act as a substitute. Since every blood stone based item uses the same rune, they are easily identified by those who regularly use such items.

Career

Qualifications

Apprenticeships last up to 5 years. A runesmith must also be proficient in whatever trade they are applying runes to. Qualified runesmiths under the age of 25 are uncommon.

Career Progression

Apprentice runesmiths work under the supervision of a teacher for up to 5 years depending on their natural aptitude. The work runes that are determined by master runesmiths. As an apprentice becomes better a master will begin teaching them how to divine the "personality of power stones" and the "names of items". When an apprentice is able to do these tasks without any assistance they become a journeyman runesmith. Runesmiths are then ranked based on how many power stones they're able to work with on a single item.

Depending on the medium, a runesmith will require anything from a sewing kit or jeweler's kit to a chisel for stoneworking or a hammer and anvil. A runesmith will require special tools to determine personalities of stones and names of items.
