Orthodox Saints

The Sacred Society Of The Imperial College Of Saints

A polytheistic religion that follows the old Saints. This church is one of the more rigidly organized churches with priests, bishops, and a pope. The Orthodox Saints were originally founded by the Terran Empire. When the empire collapsed the holy texts were all lost and the church has been trying to rebuild the faith ever since. Orthodoxy teaches there are 9 saints and claims that Saints not in their pantheon are false.   List of Saints and their domain:
  1. St. Julian, Patron Saint of Civilization. The first king of mortals, St. Julian oversees all kingdoms, and his blessings allow them to rise and fall as he sees fit. He is depicted as a male human and favored month is Dragon.
  2. St. Cybele, Patron Saint of Fertility. Overseer of marriages and families. St. Cybele is depicted as a female human and her favored month is Sage.
  3. St. Kromdor, Patron Saint of Power. The favored saint of soldiers, diplomats, and anyone favoring aggression. He is depicted as a male saurian, and his favored month is Warrior.
  4. St. Fauna, Patron Saint of Animals. The great hunter and first to domesticate animals. One of the twins, St. Fauna is usually depicted as a female elf and her favored month is Lion.
  5. St. Flora, Patron Saint of Plants. Leader of farmers and domesticated plants. One of the twins, St. Flora is usually depicted as a male elf and his favored month is Rose.
  6. St. Minaria, Patron Saint of Construction. Master craftsman who built the first city. St. Minaria is usually depicted as a female dwarf and her favored month is Tower.
  7. St. Pallon, Patron Saint of the Seas. The first sailor who can command the weather. St. Pallon is usually depicted as a male orc and his favored month is Leviathan.
  8. St. Secry, Patron Saint of Literature. Creator of the alphabet and books. Typically depicted as a female saurian, St. Secry's favored month is Shadow.
  9. St. Kro, Patron Saint of Journeys. First person to travel to the four corners of the world and favored by those on a literal or metaphorical journey. St. Kro is usually depicted as a cloaked figure and its favored constellation is the Apprentice, "the 9th constellation of the sky."

Structure

The Exarch is in charge of the College and is elected by the Archbishops. Bishops control bishoprics. Each church building is attended by a priest.

Public Agenda

Preserve the purity of the Saints and recreate the original Terran religion.

History

Originally founded and controlled by the Terran Empire. The church was recreated through oral records after the apocalypse after most devices with written documents were lost. The church is being slowly recreated to its original state by the recovery of texts from the Necropolis.

Mythology & Lore

The Orthodox College of Saints believe that the universe was formless and chaotic. But the universe was also created with a spark of divinity which brought forth order. This order of divinity began to weave the material from the immaterial. From this divinity nine mortals were chosen to become Saints; conduits to this world to help build and guide civilization. The Nine Saints bless those who follow them to build up civilization, bring forth order, and to have a society that flourishes. To follow them is to follow the divine, the source of all that is good.

Divine Origins

The College is officially as old as the Terran Empire and the growth of the College was directly related to the Empire. When the Terran Empire fell most of the holy scriptures were also lost. The College has been rebuilding official canon for the past few hundred years. Because the capital of the Terran Empire is now the Necropolis, a new location has been chosen in Callia, west of the Necropolis.

Tenets of Faith

  1. There are only the nine Saints. All other Saints are false.
  2. Honor your father and mother. As they have given life to you.
  3. Prepare the young. All children should be ready for the journey of life.
  4. Follow your king. It is his divine right to rule.
  5. Build up society. The Saints have given us the ability to harness resources.
  6. Do not murder. Doing so is destroying the gift of life.
  7. Do not steal. Doing so is destroying the gift of civilization.
  8. Do not lie. Doing so is destroying the gift of language.

Ethics

The Orthodox believe that everyone should, in their life, build up and leave the world better than they found it. Everyone should pick a patron Saint to focus on (though not at the cost of revering the others) and seek to make the world better in that manner.

Priesthood

To become a priest one must be both literate and educated with the ability to speak Ancient Terran. Prospective candidates then seek out endorsement from a bishop who conducts an interview process that may last days or weeks. During this interview process the candidate will prove to the bishop their strength of moral fiber understanding of the Saints. If the bishop sees nothing objective then the candidate may then go on to their proper schooling. Candidates will travel to eight different monasteries to learn of the Nine Saints, one for each Saint. The journey itself is considered study of the ninth, St. Kro. This period of study typically takes 3-4 years but some take upwards of 8.
