Approaching Mantol-Derith S02E04 Report
General Summary
As the last of the Grung fell or ran from battle, the hellhound that had been unleashed on them turned on the party. Sadly, this prevented anyone from reaching Joe & Logan and as Richter fell the hound, Joe & Logan breathed their last.
Much to the dismay of others in the force, Bug scooped up the body in order to cast undead on them at a future date.
As they continue toward their destination, Garrick shares that he sent messages to Ront, Jim-Jar, and Prince Dendral.
Ront, who has been taking care of the farm had requested to eat the cow and was given permission. The main party also sent him into town to purchase supplies for the farm.
Jim-Jar is still in Blingdenstone and all is currently well. Prince Dendral is looking for his kingdom.
Later during a layover, Richter shares a campfire tale of Gothar Red Shirt.
Story?After the tale, one of the Zhents approach the party and ask about the sword that was found in the dungeon - more specifically, they were wondering if other treasure had been found. Alan gives pipes of the sewers to Gunther.
One More Day
During day 7 of their travels, they see a group of farmers off in the distance. As they approach, they see the chicken coop of a nearby farm. Gunther separates, sneaking off toward the coop. Approaching the farmers, Richter asks them what is wrong. The farmers, Dino and Fred are upset by a recent loss of chickens believing that goblins have been stealing them. Mr. Garrick mocks the farmers and Alan insists that they continue onward and allow the farmers to sort their own problems. The rest of the day and most of the next pass without incident. Near the evening of that day, they come to a cave entrance being guarded by 8 Zhentarim - the entrance into the underdark and their way to Mantol-Derith.Into the Underdark
They spend on more night in the open air and head into the caves the next morning. During the first day, some of the food was tainted and poisoned 9 people in the expedition, including Richter. Feeling unwell, Richter used Dawnbringer, his sword, to cast lesser restoration on himself and return to full health. No further incidents happened that day or the next.Chasme
On the third day of travel, one of the scouts returns and informs the main party that 3 large bug-looking thing was ahead. The other scouts have taken up positions but have not engaged. The 'bugs' can fly, but are about 9 feet in length. The bugs turn out to be 3 Chasme. Gunther lets everyone know that they are not beasts that he can speak with and the main party opts to attack with the remainder of the force following them in the attack. The melee fighters in the force struggle at first with 1/2 of them being rendered unconscious. Bug and Alan are also knocked uncouncious by the thumping sounds they make. As the battle continues, the first one falls. Then Alan awakes and kills the second. Richter gets a vicious hit on the remaining one and it falls as the troops get the killing blow. The scouts again move ahead following a short rest.Aftermath
Two days later the party encounters what looks to be the aftermath of a battle. 3 dead drow lie nearby as does a dead giant lizard. Bug gathers two of the drow as Mr. Garrick begins searching the area and the remains. Mr. Garrick collects 500 copper pieces, 300 silver and a scroll for Dominate Monster. As he is doing this, Alan checks with Ezekiel about the troops. He's told that the guards grumble but he is helping them understand that there will be action and reward soon. Mr. Garrick gives each of the main party members some of the money that he has collected. In turn, Alan spreads his amount the expeditionary force. Continuing onward, the next few days seem uneventful, save the spoiling of some of the food. On the 9th day of under dark travel, they approach the city of Mantol-Derith.Rewards Granted
