Humanity’s home had descended into pure madness. For more than three centuries, the people of Earth struggled to endure in the cataclysm’s aftermath. It was a time of difficult choices made to ensure survival, filled with constant wars, disease and other hardships. Eventually, mankind began to crawl out of the rubble. An untold number of years passed while humanity struggled to adapt to life.
What remained was a world that is nearly unrecognizable from its former self- so much unknown history; so many new races, creatures, civilizations and technologies, which were constantly creating and destroying. Each of them has left its unique mark upon the world.
The harsh environment of Earth forced mankind to harness new and strange abilities. Some developed incredible psionic powers. Others learned to somehow control technology so advanced, as to bridge the gap between reality and magic. Denizens somehow unearthed the lost technologies of humanity's Golden Age.
Earth is a now place where it's denizens strive to rebuild in the ruins of an ever-evolving apocalypse, where warriors battle against terrifying foes both alien and supernatural in origin.
In the time of the Ninth World, the land masses of the planet have returned to form a vast super-continent surrounded by seemingly endless seas with extremely dangerous storms. But is the Earth in the configuration it is because of natural forces and simply the march of time or did some prior civilization design it to be so? Certainly the ancient inhabitants of the so-called “prior worlds” had the ability to shape their planet – and likely other planets – as they saw fit.
Proof of this is everywhere. “Impossible” landscapes are a normal part of the Ninth World’s topography. Islands of crystal float in the sky. Inverted mountains rise up above plains of broken glass. Abandoned structures the size of kingdoms stretch across distances so great that they affect the weather. Massive machines, some still active, churn and hum. But for what purpose?
The Ninth World can be divided into two main regions:
The Steadfast - A collection of kingdoms and principalities along the southeastern coast
The Beyond - A vast wilderness punctuated by very occasional, very isolated communities
