Rune Alchemy (subject)
History
Rune Alchemy was discovered along with Rune Casting in the same expedition. It was originally thought to be used with Rune Casting, but was soon found to not work well at all with it. Only a few scholars are trusted enough to make a pure potion without side effects of some kind.
How it Works
Rune Alchemy is most noted for its tendency to work and react in strange ways. The most common way to use the runes is to inscribe the runes on a solid material and boil it in a liquid. The effects will widely vary based on the runes, materials, liquids, and even the quality of all the things used. Because of this, any potions not made by an alchemy specialist will likely have side effects. These additional effects can vary from something small such as a glowing finger, to something big like blood dripping from orifices, or even be so good as to extend intended effects or amplify them.
