We left Atlantic City minutes after Wyldfire was aboard the SAFEGUARD jet and had stored their gear. Time wasn’t on our side, but Wyldfire needed time to get their heads together before the briefing.

Captain America wasn’t there in person. He was in New York with Agent Electra and projected in over holoscreen. But, in typical Cap style, he laid down the situation as plain as anyone could.

Not long after the New York Ooze Incident, SAFEGUARD was alerted by an anonymous source as to Oscorp’s misuse of the meta-power mutating ooze. It was only weeks later that seven people who gained meta-powers from the ooze went missing.

Wylfire is notorious for keeping information close to their chest. But in this case, Wyldfire’s benefactor confirmed that they were after the same target as SAFEGUARD. Cap proposed working together against a common opponent. Wyldfire agreed to the idea.

Note: You can never tell with the Gotham vigilantes though… even in the air, they find a way to plant listening devices!

The information from Wyldfire’s tracking script showed the data was being fed through to Oscorp Industries Offshore Research Station Gamma. A refurbished oil platform off the New Jersey, specifically Gotham City, coast. That made it a little tricky to approach given the number of “Bat Operatives” in Gotham City, but we managed it.

Meanwhile, Wyldfire displayed their renowned prowess at quickly crafting a cover story to allow them to infiltrate the research station. The plan required them to break into two teams. One would go in as “shipwreck survivors” who had been assaulted by AIM . AIM, according to their story, had kidnapped their friend, ‘Alex’.

A second team would go in underwater, using SAFEGUARD scuba gear and a Sea Scooter to get them to the station. Agent El went with this team to splice into Oscorp’s communication network, which would allow the team to set up a covert channel for their own communications and SAFEGUARD’s.

Once a life raft had been secured for Team Shipwreck, the plan was put into motion.

Team Shipwreck headed out first. Once dropped off, the SAFEGUARD jet would retreat to a safe distance and remained cloaked. This gave Oscorp time to discover the “survivors” and pull them aboard. At that point, Team Mermaid would hit the water and make their way to the platform undetected.

Oscorp Offshore Research Station… it screams up to no good

The entire plan went off without a hitch. Team Shipwreck was hauled aboard while Team Mermaid slipped onto the platform undetected.

That’s when things got interesting.

Oscorp staff was sympathetic to the “survivors”, partly because of the animosity between AIM and Oscorp over the years. This gave Team Shipwreck some leeway to wander the open areas and crew areas of the platform. Meanwhile, Team Mermaid slipped across the main platform and secured themselves in a series of maintenance catwalks out of sight.

Agent El tapped into Oscorp’s satellite network and we had full communication.

Both teams discovered that the base had a high number of ‘enhanced’ security, from ‘cryo-enforcers’ to the rare ‘power enforcers’. That doubled the risk to the teams, but suggested this was the right track. They kept searching… carefully.

Their luck held, as not long after the two teams grouped up in the hidden maintenance catwalks, they uncovered at least three access points to a mysterious subsection of the platform. According to what Amythyst found, these may lead to a hidden complex well underwater.

But that wasn’t all they found.

They also stumbled over a Kryptonian researcher, possibly a member of the Society of Rao talking about the data!

The team took their first chance to use one of those access points and head down to the sublevels.
