Ivory Talons, Chapter 1: Tick Tock Take? Report

General Summary

Friday, September 11, 2009, 6:00 pm - Central Park, NY

Central Park ... then Manhattan Mini Storage south of Chinatown

A string of gang turf wars brought the Knights Vigilant down onto the Bishie Boys and Disco Boys in Central Park. After breaking up the gang war, four members of the Knights Vigilant - Taki, Moon Knight, Sahara, and Trickshot - are called to help with another gang related problem south of Chinatown.

Luoyang Fu, niece of the team's mentor Apothecary Fu, explained that the Golden Lotus was in the middle of running conflicts in Chinatown and south of Chinatown. The fighting had gotten out of hand, damaging shops and innocent bystanders. Apothecary Fu asked the Knights Vigilant to look into the problem and find a way to bring it under control.

The center of the most recent disturbance was the Manhattan Mini Storage south of Chinatown. After a quick debate, the group grabbed their custom hovercar and flew over to avoid the early evening gridlock.

They landed on the roof, after taking stock of the building and who might, or might not, be inside. Trickshot surveyed the place with his x-ray vision, locating at least eight to fourteen figures inside. As he has yet to reveal that power to his teammates, he offered some strategy suggestions. They quickly landed on a nearby rooftop, then sprang into action.

The team broke into three groups: Trickshot and Taki took the roof access. Sahara shapeshifted to slide through the air ventilation system. Moon Knight took the front door.

That's when things took their first turn.

Downstairs, Moon Knight stumbled across a Hammer Empire commando team searching the mini storage offices. Meanwhile, upstairs, the rest of the team found members of the Golden Lotus criminal organization searching and sorting crates of a mysterious, rock salt-like substance. Most packets were blue - like the infamous mutagenic drug Silent Dreams - yet a few were a golden yellow.

Acting fast, the team upstairs jumped into action. They attacked the Golden Lotus to subdue and question them about the recent gang war. Downstairs, Moon Knight started to try and negotiate with the Hammer Empire commandos. However, the commandos were having none of it. Moon Knight performed a fighting retreat upstairs to regroup with the rest of his team.

Once on the second floor, he stalled the advance of the Hammer Empire while his teammates dealt with the Golden Lotus. However, during the fight, some of the crates and packages broke open, spilling their contents!

One of the Golden Lotus members - a woman who goes by the name of Silver Shadow - was struck and her alchemy-inspired powers amplified tenfold! On the other side of the room, a pile of blue powder was struck by stray energy from one of Taki's "Exorcism" bolts, causing a giant crystalline creature to erupt into shape.

Before the creature or the Silver Shadow could go on a rampage, the team quickly subdued them. Silver Shadow was captured while the crystal creature was frozen, then shattered.

Meanwhile, Moon Knight trapped the Hammer Empire in the stairwell, then acting fast and used the commando's glue grenades against them! This brought an end to the fight.   However! The crates of the mysterious powders were abruptly tagged then vibrated through the floor as the Clock King with his associates from the Bartleby Crime Circus used stolen gear from the criminal known as the Griefer. Once the crates had phased down to the floor below, the Clock King and his associates made off with the Golden Lotus' goods!

It was only then that the team learned from the Golden Lotus captives that they had been attacked several times, by Hammer Empire, and a group of 'others' they didn't know. All to get at their Crystal Vine powder! Also, the Golden Lotus wasn't robbing the mini storage, the crates were theirs! They legally used the mini storage!

A New Mission!

At the end of the fight with the Golden Lotus and Hammer Empire, Dr. Victor Fries - aka "Mr. Freeze" - arrived too late to catch the Clock King, However, he saw the local heroes in action and approached them with a deal.

Tempus Fuggit, the Clock King, had stolen a key piece of medical equipment, Dr. Fries needed in his research to cure his wife, Nora, who is in cryogenic freeze. He can't catch Tempus alone. Dr. Fries proposes he and the Knights Vigilant work together to stop this problem.

His reasoning? Recovering the stolen medical equipment will help Victor toward saving his wife's life. Stopping Tempus means whatever the man is up to isn't likely to be 'safe', 'healthy', or 'good' for the people of New York City. Yes, the Knights Vigilant will be working with Victor - a known criminal - yet, it's for at least two good causes.

The Knights Vigilant - after a vote - agreed.
